Looks like Kino are set to release a Sergei Paradjanov boxset in early 2008 according to Amazon with Shadows of Our Forgotten Ancestors on DVD, what look like new editions of The Legend of Suram Fortress and Ashik Kerib and the existing release of The Colour of Pomegranates.

This has been discussed quite a bit already on the Kino thread.

Paradjanov's first feature, Andriesh is now available on DVD in Russia. No English and the picture is not too hot. See review here.

Is there any chance for Blu-ray releases for any of his films? "Shadows"? "Color of Pomegranates"?

Has been restored (it's already been screened), so hopefully sooner rather than later.

The Dovzhenko National Centre in Kyiv has been working on a digital restoration of Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors, but I don't know whether it is finished. They screened the work in progress in September for the 50th anniversary of the film's premiere.

Any more available details on this? Any idea what source material are they working with?

Well this news sounds very promising indeed. I wonder if there is any way to learn more about this restoration.

jsteffe, you would not happen to have any contacts in Ukraine who might know anything about the progress of this restoration, would you? Sorry to trouble you. Or anyone else on the forum?

You could just be proactive and contact the centre itself.

Good idea. I sent them an email. Let's see what they say.

They have English speakers there, so you should get a response. A number of us have contacted them in the past regarding various things. It's a good centre, but as you can possibly imagine with it being in Ukraine, they are terribly underfunded and resourced to do true justice to their cinematic heritage.
