Amazon has Uncle Boonmee up for pre-order on DVD. I hope a Blu-ray is still in the works.

I certainly hope they start releasing on Blu-ray soon as I've basically ignored the majority of what interests me in their catalog because it is only available on SDVD. Their film selection is excellent, and it will be a crime if they don't start releasing regularly on Blu-ray.

Just wanted to say to those sitting on the fence about the Headless Woman dvd, I ordered mine from amazon a couple of weeks ago and wasn't sure if New Wave had pulled all the stock from the e-tailers and replaced them or not, but it seems they have as it's in the correct aspect ratio, and upscaled it looks really good too! Maybe if New Wave are successful with their early Blus they might consider one for The Headless Woman too?

Yes, first things first: we have to have the cinema release, wait until next year until the buzz about them has died down for a home video release, then start hoping that the films will be released in their correct aspect ratio and decently encoded, then worry about them being on Blu!

In regards to the Uncle Boonmee Blu, does anyone have any info on its region-coding? It'd be shame if it was restricted to Region B.

Jia's 24 City is coming out from New Wave Films on September 27th.

Can you or anyone confirm the quality of the transfer on New Wave is similar to the Cinema Guild? I'm not sure which one to go with, even though there is about a £5 difference between the two.

I haven't watched it through yet (and I'm not at home so don't have the disc at hand) but I did a quick check through when I first got it and felt it looked great. I also did a quick comparison to the DVDBeaver caps of the Cinema Guild release, and they are essentially identical and from the same MK2 source (with identical features). If I was to call it, I would say that I felt the Cinema Guild was marginally sharper and had a tad higher contrast (though this is borderline, and it's really a matter of which you favour in the contrast stakes - personally I always like a slightly softer touch to levels) but I can't imagine, when on your system, that you'll have any qualms about the sharpness of the New Wave disc. I'd add that the colours are all but identical. Personally, I would be happy with either edition, so go with whichever is cheapest.
