I see his 'Landscape After Battle' qualifies also, but it's just too grim to make the 50

Random observation for the day: A lot of the most prominent votes for certain very mainstream films are coming from lists that are otherwise almost impenetrably obscure. So while there are a lot of interesting newcomers to the top 100 at this point, the upper reaches are still composed largely of the usual suspects. Something to keep in mind when reviewing the final tally.

I think most contributors will have seen all of mine; or - at least - the vast majority of them

Submitted my list today. I doubt it fits the description of impenetrably obscure though there are a couple of prominent votes for heavy mainstream favorites (all spelled correctly, I'm pretty sure ).

Breakdown: 22 of my picks made the forum top 100 last time, 4/5 of the spotlight picks I saw made my final 50 and 13 films re/watched specifically for this project made it. I'm guessing I will have around 16 also-rans and 7 orphans.

I'm with you on Confessions among actresses (Yoshida 1971), Tommo; it was on my original list but just missed out with the revision.
Korol Lir (Kozintsev 1971) was on my shortlist, although I prefer his 'Gamlet'

'Zabriskie Point' looks brilliant for the most part, but the climactic scene(s) jar too much.
'A River Called Titas' has been too long in my unwatched box - or boxes

Pointless hint for the day: There are currently two ties in the top 100 where the films tied are by the same director.

That was only the case before I noticed that I had neglected to combine all the votes for that version of Bottle Rocket that he made when he was 8.

Trying to put together a last-minute list, which will feature numerous experimental shorts that I saw some years ago and have hazily idealised.

One that can be found on Youtube is Patrick Bokanowski's La Femme qui se poudre, surely one of the most nightmarish films of the decade, unfurling in a confused landscape of ominous smudges and blurred masks. I've never really worked out - or bothered to investigate, admittedly - how he made his films: some kind of combination of costumed live action pantomime and painted animation.* (I see this popped up in both the Animation and Horror list discussions, fittingly.)

*Is there anyone else who has worked in anything approaching this style? If so, I'd like to know.

No one that I can think of though Lynch's early work comes close to capturing the same mood.
