Thank you, I didn’t even know there were variant cuts (although perhaps I should have guessed as much).

Wow, that's a really helpful disc review. Glad to see the number of interviews and extras. The image galleries sound like really great additions too. Dallesandro rocking that leather coat ever so stylishly! Assuming he's the lead in this one but I also enjoy him so that's not a problem.

It’s strange that English soundtracks and subtitles are mentioned in the review when the back cover of the Blu-Ray only refers to German and French audio and subs. Ditto the listing on the label’s website. Odd!

This is actually quite a regular occurrence with Plaion. Rumors are that they’re not actually having the rights to include English subs most of the time but they’re getting around it by not mentioning them on the cover. Not every edition of theirs has English subs, so it feels like they’re deciding this for the releases they think appeal most to international buyers.

Thanks for the info nicolas. I did wonder if that might be the case as I had heard talk before that the soundtrack was an issue for the English speaking market. I’ll definitely be picking this one up as who knows if Criterion will ever get round to a physical release/clearing physical release music rights.

or Angels & Insects, which as far as I know never had a blu-ray. But Gosford Park or Microcosmos are the most likely candidates.

After all the brouhaha over whether The Wiz is worthy of a spine number, I'm surprised anyone would state this publicly.

Okay, I'll pretend I don't see this.

Gkids is listed as the distributor for Godzilla Final Wars. So, other than the remaining Heisai titles that are already with Janus, it seems Toho is going to release the remaining Godzilla films themselves.

The Discfather or PhysicalMediaPresident or whatever the hell his name is now is starting a rumor of Licorice Pizza coming to the collection. I assume this is absolutely baseless but putting this here just in case.

I guess there's no reason it wouldn't be coming, but I thought Anderson didn't care about physical media or special features anymore. So unless he's doing a commentary or has a feature-length making-of doc he hasn't mentioned, I don't see what the point would be.

The film was mentioned several times on the other forum as a wishlist title for 4K over the years, including recently. This guy’s existence depends on Blu-ray.com and him sourcing titles people ask for and turning them into “scoops” whether they get announced or not. It’s absolute BS and if people call him out, he blocks them.

For what it's worth, I feel a UHD of Licorice Pizza would be more in Shout's wheelhouse.

Licorice Pizza didn't actually get a 4K release, so that would actually be a reason. however, when There Will Be Blood is also on the table, I'd be surprised if LP were to come first

not to say that Criterion is actually going to release it, but worthy of discussion. the disc father sucks

Shout already confirmed that they won’t be releasing it.

As noted on the other forum, Pee-Wee's Big Adventure is very likely being released by Criterion since it is mentioned on Resillion's website as one of the titles that they have restored alongside other titles that were supervised and released by Criterion:
Major works the team has restored include Danny Boyle’s Trainspotting, Terrence Malick’s Days of Heaven, Peter Bogdanovich’s PaperMoon, Michael Mann’s Thief, Tim Burton’s Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, William Friedkin’s Sorcerer, Rob Reiner’s This Is Spinal Tap, and Terry Gilliam’s Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

I would've guessed Ed Wood too, but the choice probably has more to do with Pee-Wee than Burton.

Pee-wee's Big Adventure would give them an opportunity to include the recent Pee-wee as Himself documentary as it was produced by HBO.

A Pee-Wee’s Bog Adventure release would be a no brainer, considering it is a parody of Bicycle Thieves and still receives praise as being one of Burton’s best (see RLM’s re:view with Macaulay Culkin for further proof.)

If announced tomorrow, two of my favorite 80s movies (this and This is Spinal Tap) being given proper 4K releases would make this the ultimate criterion year. I do hope they are able to include some documentary on the contributions by Michael Vorhal and the late great Phil Hartman.

Michael Varhol was noticeably absent in the Pee Wee as Himself documentary. I get the impression he might have been among the many that Reubens appeared to have burned bridges with.

The Reubens/Burton commentary on the WB disc is excellent
