I was actually getting excited to see this while watching the video blogs on the making of it. I had hoped it would be different form the first nine maudlin and effusive hours of hobbits. That was pretty stupid of me.

Not that I like this series, but that's pretty much how it goes in the book too. We're basically reading Bilbo tell this story of the one time he had a fun adventure.

Keep the Lights On, the new film from Ira Sachs premiering at Sundance. As a big fan of his other films, I'm really excited about this one which looks fantastic, and the soundtrack (both for the trailer and the film) is Arthur Russell!

The latest Jean-Jacques Annaud film is another big slab of history à la Seven Years In Tibet and Enemy At The Gates - Black Gold, set during the discovery of oil in the Arab states in the 1930s. According to imdb it has been released across the mid-East as well as France and Italy so far and will be coming to the rest of Euope in the next month or two, and the UK at the end of February. No US release as yet.

The trailer isn't new but it's finally getting a release next week (17th) on "iTunes, Sundance Now, Amazon VOD, and Youtube rental store." (director Clay Jeter told me via e-mail) with a DVD on March 20th. It looks really interesting, can't wait to see it.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter looks bad. Lots of slow motion f/x shots that scream "Look how cool I look". Too much CGI that it looks like a video game, which doesn't work at all with the period setting. Blech.

The talk of the town in France and Germany: Untouchables, 240 millions of dollars on box-office. Of course, based on a real story. Wide release soon, limited in America by Weinstein. It seems the rubbish of the decade.
