I'm not much of a Bond fan any more - I even have a hard time enjoying my "favorite" Bond films in their entirety - but Moore was a wonderful human being for the way he devoted his post-Bond life to UNICEF, very much a class act.

The NYTimes obit for Dina Merrill mentions that her family owned Mar-a-Lago and the estate was sold to the Trumps in 1985. (Ivanka apparently uses the same bedroom as Ms Merrill used as a child.) It is frustrating that the Times would begin their obit for Ms Merrill with this as the lead, the very first sentence no less. No doubt they are trying to get this trending as much as possible from any tie-in, no matter how tenuous, with President Trump but still, it hardly merits being the very first thing a person should read into her life if this was the first introduction a person had to her life and legacy.

Moore was my favorite Bond. He was an all-around classy guy. His coffee table book Bond on Bond is also a fun read.

My favorite guilty Roger Moore pleasure is.....The Persuaders. Adventurous, open and willing viewers should muster the courage to make it through this whole series if they enjoy some deep Roger Moore seventies kitsch. And John Barry's theme quite grows on you like an unwelcome rash.

The key is to pretend Tony Curtis is not actually on screen - Roger is the star here, really putting his full focus on the outfits.

And if you can ignore the directing, the plots, the writing, and the acting, its excellent.

The most interesting thing about the Persuaders to me is that it does have some, in the scheme of things, high-profile directors for being a TV production. CC entrants Roy Ward Baker and Basil Dearden, for two. It's a total blast, and I cherish Network's BD of it (and look forward to the inevitability of a Saint collection on BD sometime in the near future).

Every year the Allman Bros Band would play extended dates at NY's Beacon Theater and every year I say I want to go. Of course, I never did. And now I really regret not going. Sigh.

I watched him live in 2013 with his solo band. Probably the most enjoyable experience of live music I've had. I sat about 10-15 feet from his Hammond organ and his voice and chops had not left him at all. Despite going through several well-known health issues over the last several years.

Sad as it was that they retired in 2014 it seems less sad looking back that the surviving members (as well as newer but vital members like Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks) decided to call it a day and walk away from it as opposed to being halted by Gregg or Butch Trucks' death this year.

Fortunately Gregg recorded one last album over the last few years, so there is still some new music to look forward to. It will be a bittersweet affair knowing its his last, but if it holds up to his last record Low Country Blues it will be quite good.

I actually had no idea the inventor of Hawaiian pizza was Canadian. Makes sense.

Peter Bondanella, whose book A History of Italian Cinema remains my favourite single-volume survey of the subject at least three decades after I first read it.

Yeah a terrific book I've read a few times and that's really helped guide my exploration of Italian cinema.

Unfortunate, I don't think that was expected. Still waiting for a decent release of A Degree of Murder.
