Spring 2012 was about 90 days ago, not 306.

Oh, so almost a year since some guy posted that New Yorker would be releasing it in the spring that just barely happened. In any event, it was during the spring that New Yorker provided the update that we can now expect to see a release closer to the end of the year. So there isn't no sign of a release.

I missed the update as I don't check FB. Good to know it's coming. Thanks for the update!

Recently they said on FB that there's been some problems with the mastering and that they will be posting an update soon.

Maybe they just realised the film was shot on 16mm

Goodness gracious. Just the excuse I was looking for to finally grab their Moses disc. Hopefully they spice up the Class Relations with something juicy to sway those that have the Edition Filmmuseum disc already.

I'll eat my hat if they can top that package: no chance.

The smart move would be to include some other S/H film(s) that aren't available elsewhere with subs. It's not as if they don't have plenty to chose from!

Well, to respond to zedz and Daines, they did put out Moses and Aaron for its english-friendly debut.. plus that included a short film and 40 page booklet. So I wouldn't be surprised at all if their edition of Class Relations has the Making-of from the German DVD, plus, we can hope that they'll create their own full english subtitles for the film, unlike the German disk.

It is a shame that they chose this film next over ones like From the Clouds to the Resistance or Too Early Too Late, when this already has an eng-subbed release; but hopefully after the Celine+Julie Blu they'll pick up the pace again with their releases and we won't have to wait too long for the rest. They did say they are releasing them all though, which is pretty cool.

That will be an interesting dilemma, since full subtitling would be in direct contravention of the filmmakers' wishes.

Although it was Huillet who was in charge of them before, and she was gone before the UK set which didn't feature sparse subtitling... Sicilia would be missing something special if the conversation between mother and son left chunks untranslated.

This finally came out. Boding well for Celine and Julie?

Or maybe more of the Straub-Huillet films. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Othon.

So frustrating that New Yorker owns the rights to this group of very special movies. It would be so much more reassuring if they had some sort of transparency in their business model, or at least if New Yorker made some attempt to reach out to its customers.

There are several films I really love that are still locked away at New Yorker (I think): Cyclo, Angel Dust, Celine & Julie, Lancelot du Lac... It would be great to see these pictures on blu-ray.

Do they still own Kiarostami's The Wind Will Carry Us? They're also sitting on the rights to four Jia Zhangke features and a documentary, none of which have worthwhile transfers in any part of the world. They're sitting on gold and they're doing nothing with it. What was the point of bringing back New Yorker if it does nothing? They did a new 35mm of Celine and Julie Go Boating, but that was over a year ago.

Actually, this is the closest to a specified date they've yet shown. Previously, it was "Coming Spring 2013" and whatnot.

New Yorker has so many terrific films. It's a shame that they will most likely not release any of them on blu ray. I think they've released one blu. It was the animation, My Dog Tulip. It gets to the point where one hopes that they start losing the rights to these films. They don't even answer FB questions anymore. Sigh.

They don't seem to ever lose the rights to these films. They still have the rights to films they had in the early 90s. The rest of the world has moved on and New Yorker just seems to sit in place.

I do hope they are able to get Celine & Julie out sometime within the decade. But I have no hope for Angel Dust, Cyclo, The Crazy Family, Lancelot du Lac, Hana-bi, the Alain Tanner films...those are some of the films I love and which I recall New Yorker having hold of.

I imagine they are having cash-flow problems. I still get their emails advertising DVDRs of African and other films at institutional prices (something like $100–$300/film). Surely a business model that has largely had its day.

I wouldn't be so sure they still have the rights to the films you mention, feihong—unless of course you have good information on this. They lost the US rights to most or all of the classic Japanese films they once distributed, as well as other things like A Man Escaped and Touki Bouki, so it's quite likely that rights to all those later Asian films—Kitano, Kore-eda, Jia, etc.—have or will soon lapse. The question is whether that will happen before or after the inevitable death of physical media as a means of commercial film distribution.

Milestone already owns the rights to Maborosi, and I really hope they lose the rights to Jia Zhangke's and Takeshi Kitano's films so we can see non-interlaced copies of each. Jia is suppose to be working on a director's cut of Platform, so hopefully when that comes to the US, it's not New Yorker haphazardly promising a Blu-Ray for a few years.

I'm very much hoping any company can take the Straub/ Huillet's away from them. I suppose at least they released Moses and Aron on that front though.
