It seems like many of us who have never seen the movie think that way. #1 makes me very curious and I would be confused, only if that woman plays no important role at all.

Having never seen this film, I'm more intrigued by Criterion's unsettling cover image than any of these. However, only #3 makes sense to me for a film entitled "To Our Romance".

It'll make less sense when you watch the film and realize that that's a father and his daughter on the cover.

She's very much the star, so no worries.

Hot, but jailbait. But regardless, the "romance" between the father and daughter is an important part of the film.
BTW, a question about the title's translation: "nos amours" is plural--I always translated it as "to our love[d one]s". Could someone who's more fluent in French say something more about the phrase's connotations and whether or not this is the best translation of the title?

It depends if 'loves' refers to the lovers or the relationships. To our love(d one)s would refer to the lovers directly while To our romance(s) would refer to the relationships themselves, the feelings.
As the title is more like a toast-liner, I think that To our romance is better than To our love(s) or To our loved one(s), but anyway, the best/closest translation would have been To our romance

#1, and it's very fitting for the film. It's the image Pialat begins with, offering an ideal existence, which he then proceeds to slowly strip away.

I would agree with number one too, and I also think it is fitting for the movie, but mostly for the reasons HerrShreck lists as well as for the fact that it is one of the first images in the movie: so while for us, we don't see much of Suzanne's rebellious nature beforehand, we only
assume it's an ideal existence, but I'd disagree with you and say that I think that it is also safe to say that it probably never really was an ideal existence and the movie begins with the beginning of Suzanne's rebellions (this being my reasoning for #1 as the best cover) as a result of more of her being mistreated within her family circle that we never see before where the movie begins, but would see plenty of as the movie progresses.

I'm already way too excited for this. If there's anything wrong with the cover it's that it creates the sense that its "The Complete Fritz Lang" but yeah, it still looks wonderful.

And we haven't even seen the artwork for the films yet. I wonder how many people who own any or all of the three films already are going to give in and double-dip on the strength of the box cover alone?

didn't see this anywhere else:
Artwork for Phantom (#84) and Die Finanzen des GroBherzogs (#85) are up on the
MOC Catalogue page. So I take it this will be a double disc package a la Mizoguchi. Very exciting.

Is it safe to assume that the cover for
Under the Sun of Satan will look something like
this?

The

I don't know if it's open for suggestion or a done deal, but I personally prefer the previous Phantom cover.
