This I imagine will get an upgrade, either from Criterion or another label

Unless I have missed something regarding rights issues, I hope this means Criterion will break up this box and upgrade to stand-alone editions in the main line.

I vaguely recall an unsubstantiated rumor from a year or more ago, that Ozu would be the next big box set.

They're clearly transitioning a lot of DVD only titles to streaming and/or future BD/4K upgrades rather than keeping DVDs in print. Surely on a case by case basis, but it makes a lot of sense from a purely business perspective.

I think it made some logical sense that it might be the next big anniversary box set after Bergman, Fellini, and Pasolini given that there was some sort of touring retrospective for Ozu's 120th. But it never happened and I'm inclined to think that it never will now that ship has sailed.

Don’t forget that the Pasolini box was released around his 101st birthday, hence the title Pasolini 101. With a few high-profile exceptions, Criterion’s never been good about hitting anniversaries. I’m sure work on an Ozu box, which would be one of the largest sets they’ve ever created, is still happening.

With Umbrella's upcoming Haneke Blu box set coming soon, does anyone know if there's a risk of of his of his films going oop from criterion ala Von Trier's?

Not a Von Trier situation. All the Haneke titles that are with Janus are still with them.

This Is Spinal Tap is off the list!
Unfortunately, Lubitsch Musicals (Eclipse 8) is now on the list.
(Also, I'm not sure if anybody noticed, but the old 4 by Varda DVD set is also gone.)

That was via IFC, are we about to lose more of those?

IFC lost the film to MUBI, so all the other IFC stuff is probably safe.

And just like that, all of Lars von Trier's Criterion releases are OOP. That happened quick.

With today's announcement that Eclipse is back and Blu, keep an eye on the twelve of those that are OOP. They specifically mentioned Saura's Flamenco Trilogy, which I think was the first to expire (when all the other Canal titles did), and the Lubitsch Musicals as titles that would be upgraded.

Perhaps due to a forthcoming BD upgrade?

Early Fassbinder Blu-ray upgrade would be nice as these films need HD availability in the US, though I imported the Arrow Fassbinder box sets with all of those films (and many more) and the transfers and encodes look great.

Back down to 160!
Lubitsch Musicals and PlayTime standalone return.
And as per discussion elsewhere, I don't expect Elephant Man to be out for too long.

Sundays and Cybèle is now OOP, which is surprising since it's was licensed from Sony. Maybe they lost the rights to it?
