Yes, caps revealed that one to be the best overall. There’s brief Latin dialogue in the film though which wouldn’t be subtitled in English. I’ve no idea about other text inserts. Honestly can’t remember from my viewing of the film.

There are Blu Rays of "One Hundred Years of Solitude" and Visconti's "The Stranger," with English subtitles, posted on ebay. Does anyone know the quality of these items?

That's not really an accurate description. The "Theatrical" that is in German only is a cut German theatrical version, not the true theatrical version seen in most of the world, which they are referring to as "Director's Cut" even though it's just the real, general theatrical version. It makes sense that the German theatrical version is only in German, since it was only cut for that market.

I got that today, too. And it's obviously AI slop, both the designs and ad copy.

If something like the Film Foundation or World Cinema Project made merch that benefitted their mission, I might buy a t-shirt. But this is just...merch for nothing? A scented candle? "Wall art" with a quote that I'm pretty sure is made up? Not even Vinegar Syndrome would be this shameless.

Yes, on one of their home page images, they seem to have overlooked AI's unfortunate inclusion of the note, "Disc rot is real," which surely undermines their pro-physical media message.
Unless the idea is "we'll always have apparel"...?

Somewhat random question: what is Amazon UK's packaging like for Blu-rays? I've stopped buying from Amazon US because--among many other reasons--discs nearly always arrive damaged due to being packaged in a loose, thin paper bag with no cushioning to speak of. I'm looking to buy the BFI Frederick Wiseman set which is sold out nearly everyplace else except Amazon UK but I'd like some assurance that it will arrive intact.

UK better than US with cardboard sleeves and mailers for boxsets, but still not great. I suspect a lot of stuff gets banged up on its journey into its postage packaging. Pretty much every other UK retailer is better.

When I ordered from Amazon.co.uk, you’d get the bare minimum of packaging (wrap around cardboard glued together, not even a real box, or the cardboard envelope that Rarewaves uses now) but I never had a damaged copy of anything (did have the flap come loose and have several titles disappear once though, they just reshipped I think)

As an EU dweller, I'd regularly use Amazon UK to import UK label releases affordably. All of a sudden, they are charging pretty crazy import fees on blu rays. I assume this is related to the new EU law that came into effect, but from my understanding that law requires a 3 EUR import fee *per item type*, yet Amazon UK appears to be applying a 3GBP Import fee *per item*, so an order of 4 blu-rays which should only have a single 3GBP Import fee applied now has around a 12GBP Import fee. Anyone else experiencing this? How is this allowed?
EDIT: Apprently it's because Amazon usually splits up a single order into multiple shipments, which would each have the 3GP import fee applied to them, so they're treating each item as a separate shipment (even though sometimes they do ship together). So much for ordering there anymore!

I'm not sure of the details of the new tariff, but if it's related to goods coming in and out of the EU, it may be worth checking the relatively recently launched amazon.ie as they could presumably ship within the EU and avoid extraneous charges. They generally match Amazon UK's prices but I think there are some oddities with independent sellers, from what little I've tried it.

Thanks, it's a good thought, but at a cursory glance it looks like they don't ship to other EU addresses (at least not Austria in my case), and that all of the main releases I checked are still being sent by Amazon UK

Rarewaves is doing exactly the same thing. They added 5 EUR to the price of every blu-ray during the night preceding their usual monthly 10% discount. The prices in GBP did not change but they cannot be applied to an order from EU.

Yeah, I noticed that too. Ridiculous. Time to start finding EU-based alternatives. Not sure if Zavvi DE is a separate entity or would still be shipping out of UK? I know iMusic is another solid option.

If anybody finds a workable solution, I would be keen to hear. As a very recent EU transplant, I need to the best place to order UK origin discs.
