"Rowdy" Roddy Piper
If he'd put as much into acting as he did wrestling, he would have been a huge presence in film, stage or TV.

I'm incredibly surprised about this. His name had been in the wrestling sites as of late because an ongoing feud with Stone Cold Steve Austin about stuff said in their respective podcasts and that Piper had recently launched a comic book. Really sad that a second all-time great has passed away.

I know next to nothing about wrestling, but I'll have to put the fantastic They Live on again in tribute, if only for the
fight scene! Its battle of hegemonies even impressed
Slavoj Žižek!

How many other actors sustained a continuous 75-year professional career? And the real miracle was that it was so consistent - he was terrific as a child actor (his Cockney scamp in 1941's Cottage to Let is pitch-perfect) decades before he created one of the indelible comic monsters of the whole of British culture.
It's hard to recall that when Minder was first broadcast, it was supposed to be a post-Sweeney starring vehicle for Dennis Waterman, with Cole's Arthur Daley a supporting character turn - but that changed very quickly when the producers realised what a rich comic seam they'd struck. In the end, it was Waterman who dropped out.
