Glennon Doyle’s take is anti-Will Smith for how it relates to fueling DV and apparently indicative of ‘the people’s feelings on this, due to her following. I don’t know anything though

Actually all three seem like the most obvious choices.

Smith has always had a messianistic streak in his choice of roles but holy shit is this something else

Also in case it needs clarifying, I don't think hitting anyone is right, not unless it's self-defense from physical harm. I've been around people who have been slapped or punched - strangers as well as people I know - all for different reasons, and not once have I ever felt it was anything close to warranted.

I couldn’t keep watching. Were there any stern Ed Harris types who refused to stand/clap for him?

Not that I could see. In fact the reception seemed warm enough to me.

That was the most uncomfortable thing- also, he basically called Chris Rock the Devil vis Denzel

I bet Steven Soderbergh is kicking himself for not being given the opportunity to produce this show and save Best Actor for last!

Bringing up Denzel, who infamously told him to never kiss another man onscreen...

Um? Thought it was pretty obviously addressing devilish behavior. Like acting violently? The devil on the shoulder.

Did Anthony Hopkins just roast Smith, only in a super sweet, British way?

I didn't see Tammy Faye and I like Chastain in general, but I would have been really happy if Cruz had won. Parallel Mothers was probably my favorite movie of last year.

Well, that’s it — next year, I’m not predicting a single upset. What an obvious slate.

I’m still shocked about the slap heard round the world but honestly, Rock should have known better than to make fun of someone’s illness. He may not have known about beforehand but it feels that as of late, Chris’s comedy has been about punching down instead of up. As someone who has been on a situation similar to Will, where someone made a crude remark to my wife and I responded with a punch, I sympathize with him, but at the end of the day, it still looks bad to everyone around and usually makes things worse.

I think Chastain is one of the most reliable actresses working today and she reaaaaalllllyyyyyyy wanted it, so I’m very happy for the win, even though I may never watch the movie!

She was pretty good in it, so I’m not really upset about anything other than switching my prediction.
