I haven't seen one of these since the Sam Raimi era, but my pimply 12-year old comics-reading self could not forgive MJ not being a buxom redhead. Is nothing sacred? I do like his janky Adam West style costume. I saw a minute of one of the Spiderverse things while my kids had it on, and that looked like a lot more appealing direction for these funny book movies.

I don't think any of the three live action Spider-Man franchises have gotten Peter's love interests right. The actresses chosen are great overall but the characterization and chronological order of how his love life went (Betty Brant, Gwen Staci, MJ, Black Cat) has never been done correctly. Heck, we never gotten to Black Cat/Felicia Hardy in any of these films.

And you're correct. The Sony Spiderverse films are perfect, but they focus on Miles, not Peter. Of course, animation feels inherently a better adaptation genre for comic books than live action, so that helps big time in making the Spiderverse better films than their live action counterparts.

It’s not really essential that they go in order and I thought Raimi did a great job combining the first three into a coherent character. Reading over the Ditko comics and I really felt a deep connection with Raimi, for example, when earth on an exasperated Peter sits next to Betty and with newfound confidence looks at her and laughs amidst the destruction.
