Could anyone please confirm - from the actual disc(s) - an English subtitle option on the French Gaumont Blu-rays of Tavernier's Voyages à Travers Le cinéma français, la série (i.e. the 8-part, 3 disc set)? The Amazon listing, other sites and even the rear sleeve state "Anglais" but a customer review claims that "Malgré ce que dit la description du produit, l'audio et les sous-titres sont tous en français." I think it might be a case of Amazon conflating reviews of different products, but I'd like to be sure (I'm aware of the US edition).

I bought it a few weeks ago : the back cover says it has French SDH and English subs, and a quick check at the 1st disc confirms that's indeed the case !

Many thanks to both. Perhaps the review I quoted refers to Tavernier's shorter (3 hour) series which appears not to have had English subs on the French 2 DVD release (though it does of course on the UK version).

Just checked the 2nd disc of the set (you never know!) and English subs are there as well. Quelle surprise!

What may be interesting to note as well is that these discs are region free, I played them on my Oppo 105 set to region A.

FNAC have launched a new on-demand initiative whereby titles only enter production after they receive enough orders. There are currently 90 titles up - most of which are already widely available outside of France anyway. Gaumont have contributed a couple - a 'complete' (sans La maison des bois) Pialat box set and a 24-film Michel Audiard box set.

Thanks for the heads up! Quite a few Claude Berri films in that list, for anyone into that kind of thing.

Kind of a shame that the 21-film Berri box doesn't have subs, but maybe the hopefully-upvoted versions will get that courtesy, packaging be damned.

99% certain that the Berri will be the same existing discs but sold individually, as no release in this list seems to be newly authored discs.
However, I seem to recall a few Berri had subs, though I'd need to double check.

Can anyone confirm whether or not Gaumont's blu-ray release of Marguerite Duras' Le camion
has English subtitles or not? I've seen one source that says it does, and others that say it doesn't.

I recently ordered this. It only has French subs unfortunately.

Riccardo Freda´s Beatrice Cenci (1956) to be released, as Le Château des amants maudits, by Gaumont in June 2024, with French and original (=Italian?) dubs. Part of Gaumon´s new Inclassables BR line.

Also included among the June releases, is Processo alla città (Luigi Zampa, 1952) in shortened French version, plus original length version with subs (I assume French).

This is such an odd film that I wish it was better than it is, because I can admire its singularity in theory a lot more than in practice. This noir meets Chevalier romantic musical meets Suspicion precursor meets white slaver melodrama meets, I don't know, I stopped counting after all that.... is legit one of the most schizophrenic cinematic bumper car rides I've been on, but it never arrives on any good ideas despite lots of pivots to new plot points. Didn't realize Sirk's Lured was a remake of this (and I didn't like that one either), but Hollywood unsurprisingly sanded down the claws on this beast without it mattering all that much in the end

Upcoming:
Le Tournoi & Le Bled (Jean Renoir)
Maurice Pialat box set, 10 BD+14 DVD, december 2025, including some new extras. La maison des bois not included, Gaumont doesn´t have the rights and there are too many complications for doing a bluray (complications that did not exist when the dvd box set was released). See posts by 1kult here:

It looks like the Deville releases will now, maybe, be December.

There's also two teases for box sets coming round later this year (via Translate):

"- One of the films in the September box set is considered lost in some publications. It hasn't been seen since its theatrical release in the 1960s.
- For one of the other films in the box set: the version available on DVD, which corresponds to the negative, has obviously been restored. BUT! There are longer scenes in a Hungarian version (in Hungarian, therefore). And by searching through an interpositive, we did find these scenes... but they've been deliberately scratched out. So they were removed for one reason or another (no censorship issues, it seems). Why is a mystery. We hope to include them as bonus features.
Finally, for the end-of-year box set, I wanted to include a short film by the director, a rather rare one, since until now it had only been shown as a short before another film by the same director. However, we discovered a 47-minute version. Upon further investigation, it turned out that of these 47 minutes, which had apparently never been broadcast, only a segment had been used. It will therefore be included in this box set once the entire film has been scanned and restored."
