I was hoping that
Pierrot would be a digipak.

At least the cover is aces. Is the booklet informative?

Very. As is the Gorin "primer." After the Varda set, this looks like their best release this year, at least through May.

having finally picked up 'walker,' today, i have to say that i think the packaging is superb and absolutely perfect for the film.

It does complement/add to the film more than I thought initially, especially the superbly put together booklet.

The
Mafioso art is by Keiko Kimura who did
these Rialto posters. I've always been fond of her take on
Masculine Feminine.

I'd be fine with the Mafioso artwork if it weren't for the horrid background.

Ah, thanks for that. I knew I wasn't crazy in thinking the Rialto
Marienbad and
Elevator posters were by the same person. I remember seeing Kimura's name on the
Marienbad poster now.

What awful covers, except Before the Rain is pretty good if you put two fingers over the font.

I disagree. The Furies in particular is great. Stanwyck on a horse is enough for my approval.

The Furies cover is great.
I don't know what Domino's problem is. Domino, you dislike it so much that you insist on breaking the rule of no commenting on the cover art in the film thread. [-X

I really like them all. Finally some excellent looking covers again, after a couple of weaker months IMO. Especially like the Patriotism and the The Furies one.

I think they're all pretty great this month except for Classe tous risques.
I particularly dig The Furies and its awesome font(s).

I really like the covers, although I agree that Classe tous risques isn't as good as the rest--it's just got too much going on. That said, I'm really intrigued by the film!

Yeah there's four. Why?

Patriotism and Classe tous risques are really great. Patriotism looks like the work of Kellerhouse. I hope they have the Mishima cover up soon.

Classe Tous Risques would actually be my favorite this month if it didn't have that teal strip at the top. The Furies is pretty good too, but it makes me think of the Photoshop overlay effect whenever I look at it.

The Furies is Skillman, no?

The
Mishima cover is obviously being finalized, but this is what
Collider shows as being on the press release:

Well, that's just a preview. CC has never had a blurb on a cover before (at least not that I remember).

There is a smaller .jpg at the link that shows the cover without the blurbs. Still one of the worst covers in the collection at any rate. Almost as bad as Pink Viridiana IMO.

Actually, I think they've done it recently with the blurbs written on transparent stickers slapped on the shrinkwarap. Threepenny Opera had some spiel about "Based on Bertolt Brecht's Sensational Play!" and Stranger Than Paradise had a couple of blurbs at the top.

how does that cover manage to capture absolutely none of the stuff that makes Mishima so great?

And I suspect the designer's day started like this:
10:31AM: Opened file WRcover.psd
10:39AM: Finished
Mishima cover
Well now we know what title is going to show up in the .com forum's new thread, "Best Criterion cover to drop acid and look at"
I don't think it would be that bad if it didn't have those red and yellow heads running down the middle. You know the ones that scream "Hey get it? Mirrors, get it? Mirrors. C'mon, look, mirror-images, do you get it? Mirrors. There are mirror-images on this cover."
Tribe wrote:Well, that's just a preview. CC has never had a blurb on a cover before (at least not that I remember).
I don't think the blurb is actually going to be on the cover.
