Oh man, Michael Caine found a way in.

As someone who is very much NOT an Aaron Taylor-Johnson fan, I am hoping his role will be of the Lukas-Haas-in-Inception variety.

It wouldn't be a Nolan film without a one word title. Since this is supposed to be an action film, I hope for his fans that he's actually figured out how to shoot an action scene; of the films I've watched, only the non-gravity scene in Inception showed any sense of spatial awareness, everything else was a hideous mess (I've not seen Interstellar and Dunkirk since I've come to the conclusion that Nolan is not for me).

That article is wrong, BTW, Caine didn't sit out Dunkirk, he was the voice of Tom Hardy's commander.

I think Nolan is pretty bad/Hollywood-average at fisticuffs and more cliched action sequences, the main exception being the first Batman vs. Bane fight in TDKR and the hallway fight scene you mention from INCEPTION.

I think action scenes that have a more unique premise and that had to be heavily storyboarded (plus carefully shot on IMAX) tend to turn out pretty good for him, though. The bank heist and armored car chase scenes in TDK are fantastic, the docking scene in Interstellar is something else (if not strictly an "action" scene).

DUNKIRK is kind of a different thing altogether as Nolan makes the "hideous mess" of his more casual action aesthetic work well for him in that one, since it's a war movie. But he also has a few scenes, like with the aerial combat, where he seems to tap into a new approach that kind of merges his rigid large-format vision with a slightly more intuitive approach to the editing and some of the shot choices. I think that approach and Nolan's awareness of his weaknesses and strengths (there's a wonderful lack of exposition and forced character development in DUNKIRK), was a step forward for Nolan in a lot of ways, though nothing about this new project makes me think he will be continuing those steps forwards at the present moment.

With a title like TENET, how much you want to bet one of Branagh or Caine gets to say the title in some key monologue/piece of dialogue?

I'm still excited, as I have been for every Nolan movie since MEMENTO, basically.

I like Pfister a lot, but I like Hoytema better.

sidenote back to the main topic: the fact that TENET is a palindrome is almost assuredly going to play into the promotional materials for a Christopher Nolan movie.

I know he did that movie that failed, was wondering if Nolan or he spoke about their relationship now. Even though I do indeed prefer Hoytema as well

As far as I know they are on good terms and Nolan is rooting for Pfister to succeed as a director. Nolan was even an exec producer on Transcendence.

I believe they have now amended the article to acknowledge this, albeit incomprehensibly: "(one his voice appeared in the film)"

As a fan of Nolan's work, I agree that his handling of action scenes (primarily in The Dark Knight Trilogy) is not one of his strengths. However, Dunkirk showed a remarkable improvement in general continuity and spatial awareness, so I'm hoping his skills stay sharpened in this area.

Ludwig Göransson posted what looks to be the film's title logo to his Instagram, and the font looks mighty familiar.

Principal photography started in Estonia last week. Some information that local media has reported so far:

The budget is reportedly over 200 million euros.
Approx. 16 million euros will be spent in Estonia. Government had to increase the Film Estonia rebate program by 5 million euros, as their annual budget was only 2 million euros. Obviously nobody was expecting such a big project to be shot here.

Linnahall will be depicted as Ukrainian Opera House in Kiev.
There are a dozen other shooting locations in Estonia, which will all be depicted as Estonia.
The biggest action scene of the film will be shot in Estonia.
Nolan wants to drive a tank through an old tram.

Shooting period in Estonia is expected to finish at the end of July. (Previously I've seen a rumour of 56 days in Estonia, not sure how reliable it is.)

Last week of shooting in Estonia. Kenneth Branagh was seen on the set for the first time today, while Elizabeth Debicki joined last week. Out of the officially announced cast, only Caine and Kapadia have not been seen or mentioned in Tallinn.

Based on Nolan's previous films, we should expect the first teaser trailer in August. Can't wait to see my neighbourhood in all it's ugliness!

Update 27.07.: Kapadia also appeared on the last day of shooting.

3 things

1. Gratifying to see Washington get star billing. This is the billing DiCaprio would have gotten if he were the star. It looks to be an above the title billing for an actor who just broke out last year.

2. Only Nolan and a few other directors can cut a teaser like this. I am not exactly a fan of his but he's definitely one of the biggest star directors in the world, if not the biggest.

3. Is this the same as the American teaser? Was that with Hobbs and Shaw? I didn't see that.

Yeah, it's nice to see Denzel Washington's kid get a leg up for once.

This has been more or less continuously shooting since May, and filming is still not done. After the Estonia stuff (which apparently included action sequences involving cars moving at multiple speeds during filming), production moved to Italy, the UK, Norway, an offshore wind farm in Denmark, and now finally Mumbai, where Nolan recently shot an action sequence involving Robert Pattinson and perhaps John David Washington's characters falling off of buildings.
