I'm not sure if its appeared anywhere else, but Blockbuster.com of all places has a thumbnail for the cover box art of Sembene's Camp de Thiaroye, which has been delayed until November 11.

As with any New Yorker release, believe it when I see it, not to say Camp di Thiaroye won't be released (there previous Sembene DVD's offer hope) but that company is infamous for delays. Hell I think the Moolaade DVD took something close to four years.

Mondo Kim's had their copies of Six in Paris in stock today, so we can believe that one. Would be nice if it's not a shitty PAL conversion for a change.

Though there's really only one good segment, I might rent the New Yorker for the Brody extra-- though he's so moon-faced over Godard's segment in his book that it might be unbearable. Unlike his biographer, I find Godard's entry in Paris vu par to easily be his worst first-period film

Has anyone seen the NY Woman on the Beach? I expect little after their Woman Is the Future of Man, but in this case the Korean edition is a pretty low bar to clear.

It seems to have been delayed until December

New Yorker's Still Life did get released correct? Is there any word on how bad it is? I assume it's a badly done port of the BFI, and would be fine with my Chinese disc but I do want to see Dong. So what's the report?

If it's a digital-to-digital transfer, the DVD should be better than New Yorker's 35mm prints of STILL LIFE, which were abominable.

If you just want
Dong, there's a standalone
Hong Kong release with English subs.

Has anybody seen New Yorker's Camp de Thiaroye disc? It does indeed appear to be out and available, but I haven't heard a word on it.

What are the odds on New Yorker's Celine and Julie vont en bateau being released before Fantoma's Dead Pigeon on Beethoven Street?

Same Old Song delayed until March '09.

Hyuk ... Probably better than the odds of any of us being around long enough to collect on that bet.

Still Life was officially released at the end of November. Woman on the Beach is supposed to be released at the the end of this month.
No word on Celine and Julie....

New Yorker has, for the past few years, been claiming, on and off, that a DVD of Celine and Julie Go Boating is in the works. I recently sent them an e-mail about it, but I got no response.
I've only seen this film on New Yorker's VHS tapes. It looked horrible, but the movie was okay. Are they still planning on releasing a DVD of it? And what about all those other films that they continue to sit on? Godammit, I don't even care if their DVD's are just direct ports of their VHS tapes. I just want these films to be available on DVD from SOMEONE...

Like the
BFI? I share your frustration about many of the other films they're sitting on, though.

When New Yorker's DVD of Celine and Julie arrives -- eventually -- I expect it to be better than the rather lackluster BFI release. New Yorker's plan was to use the superior French DVD as its foundation -- and then add some additional materials.

How was the BFI deficient? I've been told that it's the best version available.

You're right, Jean-Luc. Has a New Yorker disc ever been better than its Region 2 equivalent?

Depends on your definition of "better." Some have more extras but poorer transfers than the R2 equivalent.
