Thank you for updating us on Delicatessen, yakushima! Adding the Severin to the blue tier (and the superior import column).

@fus1on: The Nice Guys (Warner) is a solid upgrade.

Judas and the Black Messiah was manufactured with a 5.1 mix even though Atmos exists and should’ve been on the disc. No news yet about what happens with the release but I’ll update once more info arrives.

Judas will be corrected. They’ve put the release on hold and will announced in the near future according to BR reviewer Randy Miller.

Looks good to me. https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?go=1&a=0 ... 50&i=6&l=0

Cure (MOC) is a very nice upgrade.

Orca: The Killer Whale (StudioCanal import) is disappointing due to DNR and grading anomalies vs new Paramount / KL master that has grain intact. As usual, their encoding is probably bad, so should we settle with blue for KL for the superior transfer? I haven’t seen these and can’t imagine many other reports coming in.

@Fus1on: The Nice Guys has turned out to be disappointing. fkid at the other forum checked the audio and Warner emptied the LFE channel compared to the old Blu-ray. (Same is the case with Judas and the Black Messiah but with that one being fixed anyway I think we can ignore it)

Virtuosity (VS) - caps by cinemaniac, which look great but they boosted the audio and introduced clipping.

Ghosts of Mars (Shout) - caps by cinemaniac, which look great but the old Sony master doesn’t look too bad and Indicator has a Fidelity encode

Panic Room (Sony) - HDR caps by fkid. These may not look right on some systems and have huge file sizes. Obviously this is a huge improvement after what was available until now. Still, the early 2000s nature of the film is palpable and more noticeable f.ex. in the opening scene that looks upscaled but seemingly without AI usage or any egregious tools. No info yet about what Fincher actually changed and where he tinkered around but all in all, I expected something much, much worse and am very excited for this release.

I had heard there were issues with Orca's (Studio Canal) UHD, so I bought the blu ray on its own. In many scenes, what should be grey skies, blue seas and even brown hair lean towards green, and whites are blown out or cream/yellow. Very out of balance and I imagine the 4k would have these fundamental flaws as well.

@fus1on: Conclave (Universal) - great release! Very well encoded on the 4K and BD and the Atmos mix (4K only) is outstanding. I’ve subscribed a month of Peacock to watch the film earlier and was underwhelmed with the streaming quality, so this was a pleasant surprise.

Constantine (WB) - caps by cinemaniac. He also shared that the new Atmos mix is heavily compressed and volume boosted.

Kobe / cinemaniac, if you’re reading this: Should we put the disc into disappointing?

Kobe also pointed out that the audio on Criterion's BD of Cure is heavily filtered in comparison to the untouched MoC audio. That convinced me to go for the MoC 4K today instead of waiting for CC possibly updating.

I’d say it’s in the same camp as The Matrix: a massive PQ upgrade but a loud, compressed audio track. The tier in which other discs with similar traits and remixed audio would be appropriate.

Thanks! Blue tier sounds good then as we’ve also got Matrix there. BTW, also thanks for your Dressed to Kill caps and thereby confirming what I’d initially suggested. Turns out I wasn’t “over-egging the pudding” :D

Just in the audio department. It’s the same exact track just higher in level on the Arrow.

Cruising (Arrow) - They went all-out on the edition in restoring the original cut, colors and audio mix. The latter was done by Bad Princess, who’ve established themselves to be among the very best in the business for audio. I’ve read nothing but praise so far.

Cronos (Criterion) - Chris’ review.

John Carpenter’s Vampires (Shout) - described as a strong upgrade in PQ compared to a poor old BD and sound was improved as well compared to the old mixes.

@fus1on: Nosferatu (Universal) - caps by cinemaniac. Brilliant encode with beautiful highlights. Universal‘s doing a great job with contemporary films right now.

I did see some very noticeable banding in darker candlelit scenes. I also noticed a similar level of banding in my viewing of The Northman a couple nights ago. Eggers’s films should only be done by FiM :D

Ugh, there goes my glowing perception of your caps. :( Why can’t they just do this right once and be done with it? I wonder how the entirety of Conclave’s doing as that’s not too bright a film either.

Yeah, I only did caps of the first 25 mins but most of the banding I noticed was after that. You’d think the FEL would take care of that.

@cinemaniac

Haven't seen the Nosferatu 4K yet so I can't really comment on it, but would you say the banding issues are significant enough to downgrade it to Solid Tier? I already added it to Reference before I even read your comments, but I can change it if you feel like it.
