I emailed Mulvaney abot Hou and Edward Yang and got this response:justeleblanc wrote:Sorry if this has been repeated (search proved to be no good for this), but as a Hou Hsiao Hsien newbie, would there be any chance of Criterion releasing his Taiwanese History Trilogy that consists of City of Sadness, The Puppetmaster and Good Men, Good Women? I saw the terrific fake Criterion cover art of other HHH films, and didn't know if someone has asked about HHH recently? A number of his films were released by Fox Lorber, meaning that they have most likely reverted back to their original copyright holders. Would these films even be available?
Disappointing, but at least there's some hope for more Yang somewhere down the road.We don't have plans for films by either of those directors at this time, but it's possible we may do another Edward Yang film at some point, so feel free to check back!
Sincerely,
Jon Mulvaney

Just checked my email and found a Mulvaney response!
I asked if Criterion were going to release more Costa Gravas films besides Missing and Mulvaney responded that there are more Costa Gravas films coming but he could not provide me with specific titles.
Just a wild guess but could this be the oop "Z" ? What would be other likely choices?

I don't think he was any more candid than usual. All he said was that maybe they will do another Yang at some point and that there are unspecified Costa Gavras titles in the pipeline.domino harvey wrote:Mulvaney has some loose lips today, he must be knocking 'em away from a bottle at his desk
As for the Trilogy of Life, he's already confirmed it awhile back. In fact I posted his response regarding the Pasolini titles 3 weeks ago...or on page 12 of this thread. So that's not really news.

Is it not still possible (and excuse me if this has already been mooted elsewhere) that December will see the double pack of The Red Balloon/White Mane with extras? Network just announced a barebones release of these over here and I don't want to pick that up if CCs are imminent...

It's not quite as simple as that with Network - they're releasing FLIGHT OF THE RED BALLOON by Hou Hsiao Hsien as a single disc, then a 2 disc set of FLIGHT OF THE RED BALLOON with LE BALLON ROUGE, and finally another twin bill set of LE BALLON ROUGE and WHITE MANE together - all to come in September according to their ad in October's S&S...
I'm still hoping against hope that the Eclipse ROSSELLINI HISTORY FILMS set will escape early December....

Undoubtedly more will come sometime... Titles mooted for the CC include THE ONLY SON and THERE WAS A FATHER, while there should be one or more further Eclipse sets - silent and earlier sound Ozu.... Some 9 further titles (in addition to the 2 mentioned above) exist already in Panorama editions with English subs - it is to be expected that most will make it to Criterion or Eclipse eventually, much as Kurosawa is comprehensively covered by the two labels...MyNameCriterionForum wrote:What about Ozu?

I think the Godard will be a March release, but that's merely a guess.psufootball07 wrote:Vivre sa Vie or My Dinner with Andre releases would be the best Christmas present ever. Also wasnt it stated in the Forthcoming Lists that My Dinner with Andre would be coming out in 2008? If so, that could be a distinct possibility for December.
I assume they are going to wait on the Malle for next year since they already did two Malles in 08. Unfortunately, I don't suppose Malle's Vanya will be paired with Dinner.
