All the other Godard-directed stuff in the set has English subs as well (Scénario de Sauve qui peut (la vie), Scénario de Je vous salue, Marie, Lettre à Freddy Buache) or in some cases English audio (Letter to Jane, Meetin WA). The three rare Godard segments from anthology films also have English subs as does Miéville's Le livre de Marie.
Thanks for that. Is there a copy available for less than the 99 euros that Amazon is selling it off for. I just can't excuse spending $140 all at once right now.

I don't know. I got mine from Amazon.fr. They've been selling it for 79 euros or something like that at some point, so maybe you should wait until it's reduced again (assuming it will be?!).

Hm ... Well ... Now, this leaves me wondering whether I should use some coupons on buying the German box set accatone wrote about in February, or whether I should wait and see what will be in Gaumont's 'Politique' box ... :?
Received the german Box today and everything is Gaumont-licensed, good looking material (as far as i can tell). German subs only of course. No titel-card at the end of La Chinoise, not that i think there ever was one…. I think this will be the same material to appear on the Gaumont Set.

I'm still waiting for reviews, but I'd already read, that the transfers would be fine.

But first and foremost, I am still worrying about the German subtitles. I remember having read someplace, they'd appear foreshortened. And I am still wondering whether the German subs might be forced or even burned-in?

Subs are removable (on extras too) and they are quite good/complete (as far as i can tell).

Many DVD rental sites will have language learning DVDs to rent but it's likely to also be worth your while to go for a site that also allows you to rent games since these often have a language learning aspect.

Interesting. Wonder if this will have the original Italian version of Lotte in Italia without the French voiceover.

Thanks! Although knowing that the only two films confirmed are two that are readily available elsewhere, the fact that it's still happening at this point is terrific news. Where did you find this out, by the way?

Does anybody know when (or if) the Dziga Vertov Groupe films are going to be released in region 1/A with English subtitles anytime soon?

If the Gaumont fiction box is any gauge the Politics box will quite probably have english subs as well.

Criterion said "maybe" a while back. Ever since then, nothing. Hopefully someone can break them into saying something about them again.

Several months ago they posted to facebook a shaving commercial directed by DVG, which restirred the rumor pot for many. I suspect Criterion has their eyes set on these (especially as new restorations were released in other countries) but the delay is probably a result of waiting for the licensing fee to drop or waiting for decent english translations.

Has anyone contact Olive Films about these? They acquired the rights to NUMERO DEUX and COMMENT CA VA recently, but I didn't hear anything about DGV. They may know if the films are still available for licensing, or if another R1 company picked up the rights.

I believe Olive Films has Ici et ailleurs as well, and rumored to put it out with the other 2 in a set. All 3 of these films was Facets releases on vhs so that is where Olive Films picked those up it seems.

I contacted Facets several years ago about these three titles, and they assured me that they no longer held the rights to them (otherwise they would have released them onto DVD). It is my guess that Olive picked up the rights from the European distributor director.

I wouldn't mind if you were right, but at the moment there are only French subtitles mentioned on Gaumont's boutique. Maybe they'll add English subs later on, but for the moment: Hell, no!

I've just had a look at the listing on Amazon France and their specs mention English subtitles so I've emailed Gaumont to ask the question. Will post again when I hear back as this would be a must-have set if it does have subs.

I haven't heard anything back from Gaumont themselves yet but have had a response from Amazon France, who say:

As per your message theerfore we confirm again that the item "Jean-Luc Godard - Politique - Coffret 13 films" has following languages and sub-titles :

Language: French, Italian, English
Subtitles: English, French

Very promising but I'll probably still wait until Gaumont confirm the subs before placing my order.

Here is a reply I received, though I am still in doubt;

The DVDs are as well in English, in Italian and in French.
There are English and French subtitles.

Don't hesitate to ask any further question if necessary.

Thank you.

Can't find any early reports re subs on the discs of the "Politique" box, now out from Gaumont. Anyone have the set yet? Encouragingly, dvdfr.com (as well as amazon.fr) lists English subs.
