There's just no way that's the final design on the Ozu cover. It looks like it's a mixture of the Rohmer Moral Tales cover art, plus a photo-collage effect that's just awful. They must've put that together for the press release and are still working on the art.

And maybe from DVDPlanet for 10.40 each at the next 20% sale.

Oh, and the Ozu cover blows.

I'm very much looking forward to the stripped down version of Alphaville for that very reason!

Is this line going to include titles that were not in the original "50 Years" box set? If so, and a title like Alphaville will become available, that's great news.

Wait, you know that was a joke, right?

I believe justeleblanc is alluding to the fact that the Alphaville disc is already completely "stripped down," but costs 50% more than the Essential Arthouse releases. No, I wouldn't expect it to join this line any time soon.

. . . Because the existing version has no supplements. Okay, with ya. I didn't read the post as a joke because justeleblanc has had some pretty good dish about Criterion releases, so my first reaction wasn't to read tounge-in-cheek there!

There is a thread for the Essential Arthouse series, so you folks don't have to clutter up the cover art thread with this jibber jabber.

The Ozu art isn't up on the main page. I doubt it's final.

Let's hope that ain't final -- it'd be among the worst Criterion covers yet, which would be a shame for such a great film.

Yep, tongue in cheek.

The Autumn Afternoon cover is nice, not my fav but not horrible.

If it's gone to press, it is the final cover. Start dealing.

Yeah, I think Domino's probably right. Take away the sticker on the right side and the blurb along the top, and this is probably final. It's not great, but come one, it's not terrible.

It's terrible. Spoiler for the film:

Plus, that picture on the cover is the last shot of the film, and I think putting it on the cover will end up just spoiling the film.

My Japanese is poor, so those who know better, please correct me. The kanji on the lower right side is not correct. The first two characters should not be separate. They should be together; like this 秋 which means autumn.

Does anyone know why, when B&N displays artwork like that, they always show the underside of the discs?

They probably don't have the DVDs yet, but just the box or perhaps they are just stupid.

Wow, I can't wait to get my hands on "Vampyr." This is the release of the year so far for me. Great movie and a fantastic presentation.

I don't know, but I never, ever lay my DVDs on a surface unless its label side down. 8-)

Any word as to whether Trafic will be in a digipak or not?

So they don't get scratched?

I suspect it won't. I really don't have any reasoning for it, though.
