I'm surprised since he, AFAIK, otherwise did Carlotta's others UHDs (except Crash, which as I recall uses the German encode).

Indeed. And unless I am missing something, there is nothing that explicitly points toward Hiventy having done the encode in the UHD disc credits (of any of the four discs). Could of course be that they did it, but I don't see any such information - neither on the credits screen, nor after the film, although two Hiventy employees are mentioned in the 'special thanks' section. In any case, I remain underwhelmed by the encode.

FiM usually now is only mentioned in the Special Thanks too, IIRC.

Can anyone confirm that the Antoine UHD set is region locked (even tho UHDs aren't supposed to have region locking at all)?

This likely is a mistake on Classik's review.

A friend was saying the disc could not be played on his OPPO UDP-203. That prompted me to go checking out the review in the first place.

Carlotta released a BR of Velvet Goldmine back in 2014 that features a longer international cut of the film. Old news but new to me, and I couldn't find any mention of it on the forum. The existence of a longer cut somehow eluded me despite being a Haynes fan (albeit, a fan whose film viewing from 2015 - 2020 took a bit of a hit between parenthood and other personal issues; I just got around to seeing Carol for the first time yesterday and omg what a movie. Feel like I developed a heart murmur or something).

Oh, I'm certain you could find me babbling on about that release somewhere on here. It's entirely worth importing if you're a fan, though more for the scan than the cut. The Cannes cut isn't extremely different (here's a description of all the differences), and it looks to me like an older HD master, but it's still a big step up from upscaled DVD master the US BD uses.

Too bad. Thought I saw tenia directly asking that site reviewer on twitter and being told the Region B designation was a typo.

I did and that's what they answered me, though I don't know if they tested physically the discs through different regions to confirm, or if they simply went by the idea that UHDs aren't supposed to have any region-locking.

I was disappointed to find that the Carlotta release has noticeable issues with contrast/gamma, such that there are never any true blacks and image contrast and dynamics are flattened, even during daytime scenes.

E.g.:

...and:

..and:

I really hope this will resurface with properly adjusted levels. I was able to get a bit of improvement by misadjusting the brightness and contrast settings of my Oppo, but it really is baffling that this wasn't corrected during a QC.

I was trying to find scenes where there was an existing BD comparison, but the issue is most noticeable in some other examples.

I don't know if it's a disc issue or just the fact that this is a visibly dated master.

Great news though I'm a bit disappointed that Texasville may not be the restored cut Bogdanovich was hoping to bring back into circulation. (The run time listed is about the same as the theatrical cut.)

It's a quite dated master though, with the grain looking totally frozen.
Texasville, while still from a pre-existing master, is much better to look at. It's 125 min long.

New restoration of Vittorio De Seta's BANDITI A ORGOSOLO also released theatrically by Carlotta in France today.... Trailer here... Looks lovely & richly deserving of a Blu Ray release somewhere...

I'm picking up Red Desert on my way home today. Really looking forward to seeing the colors on that one. The BFI and the Criterion looked very different, so interesting to see where this one sits.

Story of a Love Affair is only released today, but I'm holding back because I already have the UK Cult Films release from 2020. This would probably be from the same restoration, right?
