It was the very first MoC title I ever bought and I remember being so enamoured with the booklet design that, while skimming it upon opening the case, I ended up reading the entire thing then and there. I guess the rest of these OOP notices don't effect me personally because after Michael I started buying up the whole collection.
Thanks effigy105! --
Michael was the first DVD I ever produced (in the Summer of 2004) and I enjoyed putting that booklet together. Since then, I've done over 150. Looking back on it now, it wasn't wise to do a 2-disc set. I believe the film has had a new film restoration since 2004, and the film should really have a new HD restoration and a Blu-ray, but unless there are some deep-pocketed forum readers willing to fund it, I'm afraid that's not likely to happen due to low projected sales.
This all factored into our decision not to repress.

That would be great, if and only if we here at the forum have the chance to buy copies of that film before it goes OOP.
I am guessing there are lots of forum members (your best customers by far, I think) who really would love to buy ABHIJAN or MICHAEL now.
If you announce at your sales, like you did last time with GANDAHAR, that Title X is going to be soon OOP, then this should be firstly a very low effort for you. Secondly you make your hardcore buyers happy. Thirdly there will be no squeeze out effect, because people normally buy titles without correlation (i.e. I wont buy another MoC because I saved money on MICHAEL).
What do you think about that procedure, peerpee?
In general I agree with you: If the costs for repressings are that high (you explained it before), you should hunt for new titles and let the low-seller sleep in peace.... at the shelves of forum members

Fortunately I have seen some German libraries who had a great deal of MoC (10-30 different titles).

We'll try our best to inform folk as soon as we can. There's no clinical rules being followed, it's all very slapdash, I'm afraid!
In the case of Michael - it was the very first title that I worked on entirely from scratch, and our second only release. It's been out for six years now. It's had a good run.
OOP titles do, like it or loathe it, increase in value. It would be a little unfair of us to consistently tip off members of this forum, regardless of whether you or I regard this forum's members as "our best customers by far".
We'll announce OOP titles either at Eureka's sales page (like Kevin has been doing) or on our website. Thanks!

What are the secondhand market options for US buyers of UK DVDs? Amazon UK Marketplace won't even allow me to place an order with a shipping address in the US (even for sellers that list both international and domestic delivery rates :-k ).

playtrade might be an alternative. or ebay obviously.

Why not save about twenty or so of any title coming down to the end of their pressing (instead of sending them to some backalley HMV) and put them on the monthly sale with the tag "get it before we decide what to do with it!" Then limit it to one per customer and everyone wins.
That or repress Abhijan and Michael and state "get them before they're OOP!" and the orders will come flying in..

Why single out EDVARD MUNCH? I can understand the others might be more popular titles. Is it somehow assumed that EM is in danger?

EM hasn't been the best seller in the world, it still has the thick spine, and speculation has been brought up before so it was probably a good idea to point it out.

Just a suggestion... of a regular buyer. Furthermore I can't imagine that many people here buy the title to make profit, but to have them in their collection. But you surely know best, as you run the company.

I don't run the company. I oversee the direction and production of the MoC titles. The boss of Eureka owns the company and the label.

Bought Michael for £18 from BFI southbank, they still have some copies left of this and Gandahar, but Abhijan is nowhere to be found.
I have a lot MoC's in my collection, but when Michael was being sold for less than £10, i was always broke or other titles had priority.
It's a pity i wasn't buying many DVDs back in 2005...

Bought "Michael" from someone here about 5 days ago for 12 bucks. Beat that.

Does anyone know whether Ugetsu Monogatari/Oyu-Sama has gone OOP? It seems unlikely to me, but I was finally about to pick this up the other day (for the second film; I have the Criterion Ugetsu already) only to discover that it's not much under £30 anywhere.
Or is this just a case of retailers bumping up the price while a set is re-pressing?

The Mizoguchis will be bundled together in a boxset in early next year. No worries there.

I couple of people mentioned Abhijan, well you can still get it on DVD with removable english subtitles here
http://www.calcuttaweb.com/cgi-bin/shop ... ajit%20ray" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The picture is of coarse not as good as the MoC release but it is still watchable. There is also a watermark in the top righthand corner.
You can find most of Ray's films here as well. Some better quality than others.

I got my "Michael" DVD this morning and I can't believe I'm owning this gem. It went OOP like 4 days after I bought it new for 12 bucks! Sometimes life is just on my side. Wonderful package. I feel sad for those who didn't have time to grab it.

I think it's hit or miss, Swo. For the most part, I don't have any problem using Amazon UK Marketplace where they indicate the availability of International shipping. On the other hand, if you are selecting something from your Amazon UK wishlist for purchase via the Marketplace, it will invariably deny it.

peerpee, do you think "Tabu" will likely go OOP or is it the kind of title you'd re-press anyway? I know you haven't ditched the fat spine yet so you're still running on first press. Will it share the sad destiny of "Abhijan" and "Michael"? 'Cause if you're not planning to keep it in print I'll grab it from Amazon instead of waiting to buy direct from Eureka.

Is Punishment Park OOP?
I also assume that the bottom row of the DVD's on the sale page is the "soon to be doomed" row?
Lastly, any other updates about potentials? Is The Holy Mountain and the Teshigaharas safe?

PUNISHMENT PARK is not OOP. The others you mention are safe for the time being.
Not looking too good for NIGHTMARE ALLEY and THE PRISONER OF SHARK ISLAND though. Their licences have run out, we're not renewing, and when the current stock has run out - that's it.

I'm buying them as fast as I can afford. Only up to #30, with a few others up the list.
And then I guess I'll have to buy a blu-ray player.
