Re: Forthcoming Lists Discussion and Random Speculation Vol.
Firstly stop being such a condescending jerk. Is it so hard for you to understand why someone might not like R&H? Is such a difference of opinion such a large sign of stupidity to you? Secondly I appreciate musical theater plenty whether it be pre or post war. Admittedly i prefer the stuff from a couple of decades down the road (particularly Sondheim who is superior to his mentor), but I'm not the buffoon you're making me out to be. This is the wrong place to be talking about this though so I'll only reply back if you post in the musical thread.
edit: What Swo said too. The guy's a total savant on the subject.

Re: Forthcoming Lists Discussion and Random Speculation Vol.
I genuinely apologize for being condescending. I had no business barging in on a community (via a somewhat off-topic subject no less) and making proclamations about who or or who isn't informed about any genre. My only defense is that when one lurks in a forum (or listserv or what have you), you tend to forget that the community that you've familiarized yourself with, is unfamiliar with you; but you were right to call me on it.

Very great news about a Hollis Frampton set. Criterion needs more avant garde, especially since the Brakhage set was done so well. And while not "avant garde" per se, the Painleve set was a really nice collection of films out of their typical feature-focused wheelhouse, so I appreciate that set as well.

Someone on Facebook says Frenzy is being announced, but Criterion's site is still down for me.

They're updating it now so the posts should be ready in about twenty if the ever reliable screwups with their site is right.

The site is working fine for me and nothing has been announced yet as far as I can see.

Holy shit, if that's true, I can't believe Criterion didn't tease it!swo17 wrote:Someone on Facebook says Frenzy is being announced, but Criterion's site is still down for me.

Is Frenzy considered good? I haven't seen it, but I always had the impression that it was considered middling.

It's essential Hitchcock, generally regarded as such too. And, just to keep up my cliched image, it and Family Plot influenced admitted Hitch fanatic Claude Chabrol's later masterpiecesknives wrote:Is Frenzy considered good? Oh my goodness... that would be incredible. It's one of Hitchcock's underappreciated gems. If they could get I Confess from WB, I'd be in heaven.

I enjoy Frenzy quite a bit, but it does seem to elicit mixed reactions. At the very least, it has one of Hitchcock's best camera moves.

It's Hitch at his most sordid....Luvverly Luvverly. Also interesting for being set in the old Covent Garden Market before it was pedestrianised and the boutiques and mime artists moved in.knives wrote:Is Frenzy considered good? Oh, so I'll like it then. Even if they don't announce it I know what I'll be renting next week.domino harvey wrote:It's essential Hitchcock, generally regarded as such too. Re: Forthcoming Lists Discussion and Random Speculation Vol.
Isn't I Confess in the same predicament as Stagecoach and Foreign Correspondent where WB didn't renew the rights? I'd be happy to get a solid Blu-ray for that one as well.mfunk9786 wrote:Oh my goodness... that would be incredible. It's one of Hitchcock's underappreciated gems. There was a rumour of that because of a Ebert show mix up, but it's 100% WBs.

We know they have Foreign Correspondent, which makes this out of nowhere leapfrog particularly surprising if true

I wasn't too impressed with it when I watched back in college, but I only saw it once and don't remember much about it. It's probably the most successful of the post-Marnie Hitchcocks, although I definitely got the feeling that he was letting his id run wild with the end of the Production Code.knives wrote:Is Frenzy considered good? I don't understand. Criterion sat on these for fucking years only to make it an Eclipse set with no extras? What did they do with Gorin's contributions?swo17 wrote:Gorin set

Fuck yeah David Kalat: he's on commentary for Godzilla!
Also, a very interesting Belle du jour extra: Susie Bright and Linda Williams. I'm glad they have Michael Wood doing a commentary because his book on the same was invaluable for me.
