I'm looking forward to whatever they're releasing next, but I'm not quite as enthusiastic about Possession as the other ones.
I think you might be more enthusiastic when you see what it looks like :)

Mondo Vision's original plan was to release Possession as one of the first titles. When they called me in as a technical consultant, I looked through the masters on hand for the film and gave them my opinion on them. I believe the same old master has been used for nearly every DVD release of the film.

Hoping to have something concrete to share with you soon, but it's under wraps I'm afraid.

...and the anticipation starts building.

I don't care what anyone else here says, POSSESSION is still the one I'm looking forward to the most, even if I've already got the Anchor Bay release from years back. the first Zulawski I saw and it's likely still my favourite.
happy to hear it was delayed for perfectionist reasons. I'm in no hurry

and yes, an upgrade to BD would be nice, if at all possible (a limited edition of 100?)

How much would a limited edition of a hundred have to sell for, in order to offset the cost of Blu-ray authoring, mastering and pressing? Assuming Mondo Vision didn't want to make a thumping loss?

it was the internet equivalent of day dreaming.
and not something I honestly, realistically expect to see. the ltd ed thing was a joke, Michael

I assumed as much, but I've seen plenty of similarly deranged suggestions round these parts from people who turned out to be perfectly serious.

which is unfortunately the problem with both written communication, and message boards in general. especially when it comes to the internet.
Personally I think it's amazing that companies like Mondo Vision can even afford to release the kind of packages they do these days, regardless of format.

Nothing like a bit of humour to bring our modern communication methods to their knees :D

I understand the want for the non released ones on DVD, but Possession is one of his best and will make the company some extra money. Besides the Anchor bay release is pretty poor and would be vastly improved.

On the other hand, the Second Sight release is pretty good.

David,

What's the eta on Possession - is it likely that will see this before the end of the year?

Mondo Vision have asked me to spill some beans regarding Possession.

Regarding a release date... they (we) had intended to get it out sooner. Unfortunately, our master has a fault (big ugly videotape drop-out half way through the film) and we are still waiting for this to be fixed.

However! They asked me to share a picture or two with you in the mean time.

First, a little background info. Possession was originally intended to be one of the first Mondo Vision releases. Since it has to be a premium release, I recommended that Mondo Vision reject the masters previously offered for the film (they were all pretty soft). There are plenty of other editions of Possession on disc already; from MV's point of view, there would be no point in adding another one to the pile unless it offered something new.

So, this is a taster of what Possession looks like without the abstractions of old telecine technology affecting the image. What we are using is a scan of the negative (I believe) done on a CCD datacine.

As you can see from the picture, what Mondo Vision will be releasing is absolutely not the old vacuum tube telecine version that's been doing the rounds!

I've almost given up buying DVDs altogether but I will make a special exception for POSSESSION. I absolutely cannot wait for this MV release but am very glad they're taking their time over it, that screenshot looks great.

Just a heads-up... this site has a lot of the MV titles for considerable discounts.

Thanks for that. I ordered L'important C'est D'aimer and L'Amoure Braque deluxe editions for $30.60 with the help of the HORROR code (which took off $5).

EDIT: Looks like that coupon works multiple times. Just ordered La Femme Publique for $5.80

Wow, these are insane prices. I think I'll buy all three of them for a nice $16.

edit: Damn, no more La Femme Publique. But still managed to get The Most Important Thing... and L'amour Braque for $12.

If it helps they were all gone around 12 hours ago. And yes, I would have grabbed them all, but I got none.

Possession is at Film Forum for a week starting this Friday. "A Bleeding Light Film Group Release"? Beats me, but the minds reels, practically dissolves, at the thought of seeing this on the big screen. Good god.

Considering that Possession is his most popular film, and that awareness of it seems to be currently growing, do you think Mondo will increase the number of copies available for the special limited edition? (Also taking into consideration that it was chosen as the next release to help increase funding.)
