master of horror Guillermo del Toro
quite an editorialization
anyway, wonder if Criterion will do this one now? I know Sony had previously put out a boxset exclusive 4K, but they did
Cronos about the same time BFI did
He is a member of the Masters of Horror group. However, I think , everyone that has made a Horror film gets invited to those dinners.

Leaving Las Vegas 4K UHD has apparently been scheduled for
a late April release in France. I would expect simultaneous release in the UK and Germany as well.

Canal+ Group acquires 51% majority in Italy's Lucky Red. I suppose this will be the end of licensing to Eagle Pictures.

Fantastic news for Terrence Malick fans! StudioCanal acquired global rights to The Tree of Life and others from the River Road library.
Also, 12 Years a Slave, Into the Wild, Food Inc, Chicago 10, Doug Liman’s “Fair Game,” “The Last Face,” “A Monster Calls,” “A Prairie Home Companion,” “The Runaways,” directed by Floria Sigismondi, and “Love & Mercy,” the Beach Boys-centered film directed by River Road founder Bill Pohlad.

Looks like there has been a correction to the article and Diznee will retain US and UK rights for The Tree of Life.
Correction: An early version of this article indicated that Studiocanal had acquired global rights to 11 River Road Entertainment, but Searchlight holds domestic U.S. and Canada rights to “12 Years a Slave” and U.S. and U.K. rights to “The Tree of Life.”
Looks like "The Tree of Life" will be added to the STUDIOCANAL Presents streaming service next month, so I guess they finally got the UK rights too? Hopefully it is a sign of an upcoming physical release.

Great news! It seems Searchlight had the (UK) license for 15 years and Disney didn’t care to renew it. Unless they still have US rights for some reason, it’s probably nothing for Criterion to be concerned about but if SC indeed managed to get both territories, I can imagine Criterion trying to license the film from SC in order to keep their edition in print similar to Trainspotting.

I think Criterion either recently reissued or announced a re-release of their UK release of Tree of Life.

It is there now on Amazon Prime at least (Apple doesn't like my VPN), but the studio is still lsited as Twentieth Century Fox.

Studiocanal secures international rights to 4K restoration of ‘Pan’s Labyrinth’
Pan’s Labyrinth will release in 4K theatrically in the UK, France, Germany, Australia, and Benelux this autumn with special presentations in 3D, followed by the roll-out of the premium UHD Collector’s Editions in UK, France, Germany, Australia and New Zealand.
Not surprising, but good to have an early confirmation.

I'm a bit confused, are there touring a new 4K restoration or are they just touring the same master used for the 2019 4K?

A new restoration is premiering at Cannes for its 20th anniversary: "meticulously restored from its original 35mm negative, for which Guillermo Navarro, ASC, received the Best Cinematography Award at the 2007 Oscars. In addition to Academy Awards for Art Direction and Makeup Effects, the film also garnered over 100 awards worldwide. Every detail of the restoration was personally overseen by del Toro."

I recall seeing somewhere that the film was finished on a 2K DI, so that's interesting to know that they went back to the original camera negatives. I also recall seeing a post from someone saying that they were told by Del Toro that he was planning on doing a 4K release with Criterion.

I'm trying to decide whether to get the Hitchock box set, which is on sale at Orbit. Are Juno and Rich and Strange new restorations? I have the Kino set, but this obviously fills some gaps.

Yes they are restored. They are also framed correctly in the box.

Maxime Saada in a nutshell.
I'm also unsure how Canal will keep touting being the "1st partner of French cinema" considering who they'd have to stop working with.
In any case, Canal's fundings have been reduced over the past decades anyway - something that kept being under-noticed : they're basically back to what they were doing in 1998. While they're seemingly some kind of wunder funder that can kickstart productions by saying "we're in" and having other funders only flocking in then, it does mean dozens of movies had to find their fundings elsewhere already anyway, so another way is possible.
This is also why I believe Canal have been riding their legend for way too long, but facts aren't backing it anymore since quite some time.
Hopefully, this might be the last straw for our industry to restructure away from Canal rather than around it.

Many such cases among the rich. Critics, political pundits and news media as well. A bunch of thin skinned babies.

Thanks, ordered. Which probably means Criterion will announce a Hitchcock Early Years box set soon. It would be nice to have Easy Virtue here as well (even if it's the weakest of the silents).

The fact they've gotten the Criterion DVD commentary on here makes me think Criterion have reacquired the rights from StudioCanal, and Criterion's traded the commentary for access to the new 4K master (and possibly some other extras).

Definitely, more Julie Christie. Petulia…long rumored… and The Go-Between are both Criterion worthy. Some would also argue for Fahrenheit 451.
