Bought it immediately. I saw it at the Cinefamily (the organization that was a precursor to Arbelos) in 35mm, and it's a truly visionary piece of work. Somewhat bemused to see that Charles Solomon
contributed an essay. That curmudgeon taught a UCLA class on the history of animation that I audited, as he seemed to loathe ever animated feature from the last 40 years that wasn't produced by Disney/Pixar or was directed by Miyazaki.

On Facebook earlier today, Arbelos' Craig Rogers said that their version of Sátántangó underwent a fair amount of additional clean-up after the Artificial Eye disc was released.

Arbelos is NOT a precursor to Cinefamily! I actually know the person who originally programmed this for Cinefamily and he’s long since moved onto other projects. In fact, one of the Arbelos folk is actually a long time American Cinematheque programmer. Too bad Cinefamily had their calendars scrubbed off the web. I’m convinced I saw this there back in 2012 or 2011, but it seems like it was perhaps 2014.

Thank you for clarifying that! I had thought there was some overlap with Cinefamily/Arbelos/Cinelicious. I think I know who you're talking about at the Cinefamily; he was behind their amazing Animation Fests (which hosted events like Will Vinton screening The Adventures of Mark Twain) and screening things like the French film Chronopolis and Heaven & Earth Magic. I even emailed him once about showing UCLA's print of Robot Carnival.

Dear Customers,

You are receiving this emailing because you have purchased a copy of the Limited Edition: Son of the White Mare Blu-ray.

Due to our commitment to providing the highest possible quality in our special edition blu-ray packaging, we’re announcing the previously advertised doubled-sided Son of the White Mare poster has been cancelled. Test pressings revealed a demonstrable crease and tear issue, which compromised the quality of the images, and as such it has been replaced by a new collectible character “cutout” poster, pictured below.

We thank you for your support and look forward to shipping your limited edition sets in June!

Sincerely,
Team Arbelos

Interesting. I don't know if I'll have the courage to take a pair of scissors to the poster...

Nice, I've been wanting to see this for quite some time! It's ripe for rediscovery.

Did Johnny Corncob have an English dub in the ‘90s? I just watched it and had massive flashbacks to a 1st grade class showing something like it. In particular the opening before his conscription and the immediate scenes following his return home seemed shockingly familiar.

Hanna-Barbera picked it up and created an English dub with music by Seals and Crofts (!!!), but they never released it and it doesn't seem to have ever shown up on the bootleg circuit either. But they did incorporate footage from it into a couple of music videos from their "HBTV" series ("Whereabouts" by Stevie Wonder and "Crazy Love" by Poco), both of which were included on compilation videos. Maybe you saw those?

Maybe, but I remember a narrative film being shown, admittedly many details don’t add up so it’s likely that I’m just being reminded of a different movie.

If someone has received Damnation or receives it over the next few days, can you please post your thoughts on the bluray? Unfortunately, there are no reviews and mine will be several days away from Amazon shipping.

I ordered mine directly from Arbelos, but although I now have a tracking number USPS still regards it as "pre-shipping", so it's very unlikely that I'll get it this week and possibly not even before Christmas.

I have every confidence in this one, though, and it's not as though it was a present for anyone else.

I have planned to review it for my website, my copy is currently in transit from Arbelos. I'll try to give it a quick spin to post first impressions if I can't publish the full review before the holidays. I however expect something very much in line with their Satantango release.

My copy of Damnation arrived today. I just did a quick scan through it, and it looks fabulous to my eyes. It has the look of a top notch 4k scan and restoration. The grain, detail, and grading are beautiful on my OLED. Compression looked well managed, even in the rain scenes, from what I could tell. What a tremendous upgrade from the AE DVD! Hopefully Werckmeister Harmonies is coming.

I watched a good chunk of the DAMNATION Blu-ray and am also very happy with it. The new restoration really brings out the textures in the cinematography.

I am quickly going through Damnation now. As mentioned already and worth repeating, it looks tremendous. I will dive in over the weekend. I'm sure many are hoping that Arbelos does Werckmeister Harmonies next, myself included, but I would also love to see them release Almanac of Fall
