How about a Bertrand Tavernier boxset? Coup de Torchon is still in-print from Criterion, as are a number of others from Kino/Facets/Fox (now Koch) Lorber (The Watchmaker [of St. Paul], from Kino, being notably OOP), but I hope that it's still a possibility somewhere down the line.
I may just end up pimping for the R2 Optimum releases of the titles I'm most interested in, but a LG set with some/all of those titles and/or more would be much appreciated...

Great news. I hope they give this release better treatment than Kiss of the Spider Woman.

I for one am very much looking forward to Ironweed. I am just concerned that, according to DVD Times
the film is presented in Full Screen.
According to the (admittedly unreliable) IMDB, the aspect ratio is 1.85 to 1. A Pan & Scan affair?
No extras, by the way.
The Lost Collection

Lionsgate helps us rediscover "The Best Movies You Totally Forgot About" with their new Lost Collection. Considering one of the titles coming out under this banner is
Repossessed, I have to call the use of the word "best" into question and wonder why that particular film couldn't
stay lost. Also, note that most of these will apparently be full-screen (OK, no one cares, but still). Anyway, titles announced for The Lost Collection coming out on April 4:
Irreconcilable Differences (1984) - Drew Barrymore divorces her parents, Ryan O’Neal and Shelly Long. Also features Sharon Stone. I saw this many times in the 1980’s.
Slaughter High (1986) - A slasher film about a killer nerd.
Morgan Stewart’s Coming Home (1987) - Jon Cryer film where he plays the son of a political family who returns from boarding school. This had been on my list for a “Forgotten Film” entry. Guess it is going to make it to DVD before I can write it.
Hiding Out (1987) - Jon Cryer again, as “Maxwell Houser”, a stock broker on the run from mobsters who hides out in a high school. Also with Keith Coogan and Annabeth Gish. I saw this one at a sneak preview before it opened and many more times over the years. I just watched it again on cable not too long ago. It also featured the song “Catch Me I’m Falling”.
The Night Before (1988) - Keanu Reeves and Lori Loughlin star in this film where Reeves loses his memory right before prom.
My Best Friend is a Vampire (1988) - Vampire comedy with Robert Sean Leonard and Kathy Bates
Homer and Eddie (1989) - Mentally impaired James Belushi and Whoopi Goldberg go on a road trip.
Repossessed (1990) - Leslie Nielson and Linda Blair in this spoof of horror films.

Unfortunately I do remember some of these films
And the cover artist spelled Jon Cryer's name wrong at least twice

Is this the most ridiculous and desperate box set theme ever? I guess "Movies We Almost Forgot We Owned, Had No Idea What to Do With, and Knew Had No Chance of Selling Individually on Their Own Merits" wouldn't have fitted onto the cover.

I prefer the Gold Reel Collection cover: "Featuring one of the hot stars from Pretty in Pink". Try to guess which one - I think you'll be pleasantly surprised!

That tagline's from the Ghostbusters II campaign, isn't it?

I just noticed that Rad gets a namecheck on the Night Before cover and now I'm sad that no one released THAT before any of this shit. Talk about a lost movie - and one that people actually like, too. I'll take the glorious stupidity of Lori Loughlin and Bill Allen prom dancing on their BMX bikes before I'll buy fucking Keanu Reeves in anything. And it's a Hal Needham movie which
<----
is always a plus. Speaking of, where the hell is MEGAFORCE, anyway? God, there's so many movies that would be better suited for this cockamamie label than what they chose.

Voyage of the Damned
release date: 4-21-09
Voyage of the Damned, the three-time Academy Award® nominated film - Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Lee Grant), Best Music, Original Score and Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium - finally makes its DVD debut from Lionsgate. The classic drama stars an outstanding ensemble cast including Academy Award® winners Orson Welles (Citizen Kane), Faye Dunaway (Network) and Lee Grant (Shampoo), Academy Award® nominees Max Von Sydow (Pelle the Conqueror), Oskar Werner (Ship of Fools) and James Mason (The Verdict, Georgy Girl, A Star is Born) and Golden Globe® nominee Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange).
Voyage of the Damned is based on the tragic 1939 voyage of the SS St. Louis. Before the start of WWII, 937 Jewish Germans are offered safe haven in Havana, Cuba. They depart Hamburg in high spirits, looking forward to their new life. However, the whole voyage is actually a Nazi propaganda scheme and the passengers are never really intended to be allowed ashore once they reach their destination. After weeks of unsuccessful pleas, they are forced to return to Europe.
Pricing: DVD $14.98

This definitely has no extras and is full-screen. Not my favorite movie by a long shot, but it deserves better.

Well, Lionsgate sure knows how to milk the cow. They are releasing Terminator 2 Skynet Edition on Blu-ray and a limited edition packaging that includes the BD, the Extreme DVD, the Ultimate DVD and the digital copy inside the Terminator skeleton head.
From
thedigitalbits.com:
We've got a quick update for you on Lionsgate's upcoming Terminator 2: Skynet Edition Blu-ray Disc release (due 5/19, SRP $29.99). A number of you have asked which version of the film is on the disc. According to the studio's official press release, the disc includes "multiple versions" of T2, likely via seamless branching like the previous DVD, including the 152-minute Special Edition, the 137-minute Theatrical Cut and (we believe) the Extended Special Edition as well (featuring the "2027" alternate ending). All are presented at 1080p resolution in the 2.35 aspect ratio. The transfer is THX certified. Audio will be available in English DTS-HD MA 6.1 and Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround EX, as well as French Dolby 2.0 Surround. English TheatreVision descriptive narrative audio for the blind and vision-impaired will also be included. Once again, extras on the Blu-ray will include 8 hours worth of extras and 140-minutes of "Bonus View" features, including a PiP viewing mode with behind-the-scenes video, text commentaries and multimedia galleries, a second storyboard-to-script viewing mode, audio commentary with director James Cameron and co-writer William Wisher, a second commentary with 26 members of the cast and crew, interactive quizzes and games, BD-Live online features, the THX Optimizer and D-Box motion control system enhancement. The Blu-ray is available separately or in the 6-disc Limited Edition T2 Complete Collector's Set (SRP $174.99) that also includes the previous Extreme Edition DVD and Ultimate Edition DVD releases as well as a Digital Copy version, all packaged in a 14" T-800 Endoskull bust that plays sound effects from the film while its eyes light up. Here's what the Blu-ray packaging looks like, along with the packaging for the Limited Edition box set (the German art for now - I'll replace it with the U.S. version as soon as possible) and the actual Endoskull bust...

Full screen... seems to be a trend with Lionsgate these days, at least for older titles. ](*,)
(They all deserve better, don't care what they are.)

Dunno if this is the right thread, but Lionsgate (the corp., not just the dvd division) is taking a financial hit
Lions Gate Posts Larger-Than-Expected 4Q Loss. Perhaps they should stop releasing
Saw sequels and start putting out quality product or else risk going the way of GM and the dinosaurs...

Sadly, I'm pretty sure they make more money with saw than any quality movie...

Anyone know what the story is with Director's Series sets arriving in the mail without the slipcovers? I bought the Téchiné used, so when it didn't have a slipcover I didn't give it much of a thought. Then more recently I've bought the Godard and Rossellini sets (new) from Barnes and Noble and both were missing slipcovers. Has anyone else had this happen, and if so have you complained to B&N about it, or perhaps requested the covers from Lionsgate?
I feel a little silly giving something cosmetic like this any thought, but if these things should go out of print and become at all valuable... After all, I just sold something as common as My Neighbor Totoro for twice what I paid.

Can anyone give some feedback as to how the transfer on the new Lionsgate SD-edition of Near Dark compares to the old Anchor Bay edition?
