Well, if the relatively restrained shot of blood trickling down a thigh in The Piano Teacher counts as 'graphic genital self-mutilation', perhaps Antichrist isn't so bad!

Haneke's film is more interested in the paraphanalia of the act - laying out the razor blade and paper towels in readiness, and the hurried clean up afterwards as her mother calls for her from the other room. It helps to focus on the actual meaning of the act for Erika, who likes to be clinically in control and distanced from physical emotion, and in a way works as a preparation for the scene where she invites Walter over and displays her collection of gadgets to him while brusquely instructing him on how he is to use them on her.

Yes, it was a rather desperate example - he might as well have cited Cries and Whispers!

We should all mark it helpful to make it the top review for that item.

Amazon.com review of Pierrot le fou
Unadulterated rubbish!

A film review. Not a Blu Ray or a Standard DVD review!

Fortunately for me, I didn't have to buy this junk! I got to see this junk for free! { shut off 3/4 way thru this torture} That's my bottom line! But how did I get there?

When I first started to watch this flick I thought it had some pretty funny gags. Then it simply deteriorated within 20 minutes! Aimlessly wandering around the French country side, haming it up all along the way!!

All I can guess, is that the director/writers etc. WERE TRYING TO BE HEP, but got loss in de bois! {The woods}! If this is the same director that did Breathless some years earlier, which is very similar in plot to this merde, then I can readily understand why it is so terrible!

A UCLA film student could better and I feel surely has done much better work on a school project than this work by a so called Pro!

Just because someone thinks they are an artist doesn't mean they are an artist! Voila!

Voila tout folks!

I'm not sure I've ever seen "voila" and "tout" linked in this way before.

Just to clarify, the BBFC isn't a government body: it's an independent organisation funded solely by the film industry. In fact, the British government has no legal power to ban a film from theatrical release without a change in the law (as Cabinet minister Virginia Bottomley pretty much admitted during the Crash row), though individual local authorities can impose geographically-restricted bans.

Which means that it's not absolutely inconceivable that all the (several dozen) local authorities could band together and effectively ban a film nationally, but this has never happened and I'd be astounded if it ever did. Not least because many local authorities (my own personal experience is with Camden, north London, who never once questioned what I did) just don't want to get involved with artistic censorship. It's too much of an electoral hot potato, especially in a liberal and arts-orientated area - Glenda Jackson is a Camden MP.

Which is why all this huffing and puffing is so entertaining - the BBFC knows that it's effectively impossible to restrict a film from circulation these days, and in any case they're not about to start banning or cutting Cannes competition entries by major auteurs unless they actually break the law (usually unsimulated animal cruelty or child sex, not much else).

I believe the reviewer was already aware of where some of them came from, just not these particular dragons-- Someone invite her to the board to clear this up

Can you guys recommend the canonical films located within the Dragon genre? Preferably one's that give a balanced and fair exhibition.

This list here I have always relied upon when I have such questions.

I'd guess someone styling themselves 'VJ Purplequeen' wouldn't mind being referred to as "she" even if that's not necessarily the biological reality.

Is "VJ Purplequeen" related to "E.F. Lavender"?

Read through about five of these (short) album reviews and see if you can notice a pattern. Proof positive that listening to Neutral Milk Hotel makes people retarded. I also like the Dismemberment Plan review, if you can make it that far.

People still exert energy "calling out" Bright Eyes? No wonder this person thinks Cursive's new album is on par with NMH, the aughts were only a couple years ago. I mean, these were written in 2003 and just randomly ascribed to new albums, right?

In this guy's defense (I assume it's a guy because a woman could never be this stupid) I'm not sure he's calling a lot of this stuff on par with NMH. I actually have no idea what that one-liner is supposed to signify. I mean, he gives it to albums he rates anywhere from 1 1/2 to 5 stars. C'mon, at least be consistent.

I Googled it to see if it was a reference to something, but all I got was his review of the last Mars Volta album. No, seriously, these had to have been written in 2003

Well, I think we were all pulling for the new Mars Volta record to be the ITAOTS of the aughts. He does have us there.

I like his quote on one review' "Gets and A for effort but that doesn't mean it's good."
