Film Movement is a Vinegar Syndrome partner label; they'll be the exact same disc, surely?

There is no Vinegar Syndrome release, only a Film Movement release sold by Vinegar Syndrome

I recently placed an order including what I though was Arrow's 4K release of The Warriors, but it turns out Paramount has released it's own limited edition of this. Does anyone know how their release compares to the Arrow (thinking mainly of the transfer/presentation, as I already have the Imprint, stacked with extras)? Wondering if I should return it...

Fairly certain it's the same master, but with much less extras.

Heard Ben Hur audio is not so great but picture is awesome. Audio is better on laserdisc, dvd and blu-ray according to informed people.

On Ben Hur audio:
"the issue with the 4K release of The Searchers is repeated here; when I tap the Play button in the Menu to begin playing the movie that frst musical downbeat of the Overture on disc 1 and the Entr'acte on disc 2 goes missing in my sound system. If I then scan back to the beginning of the disc it is there to hear it."
"a glaring error at the front of the main title music of the Atmos track?? The fanfare was recorded separately from the main title but the cymbal clashes are missing, though the second ones are there."
"The 5.1 doesn't have the mistake."

Isn't this just a case of them being dumb and not leaving enough "leader"...and you miss the first beat because the decoders are taking a second to kick in? (Therefor when you rewind it's fine, because the decoders are already initialized.) So workaround is to press play, rewind, pause and then finally play again?

Nightcrawler (Shout) -

From what I read about this one, Elswit lensed daytime scenes in 35mm, but much of the night shooting used Arri Alexa cameras, which output at little bit better than 2K resolution in ARRIRAW. So of course, a 2K DI was then created in post, and that's what was used to author this disc. It's a crying shame, as usual, that 35mm footage has been compromised in the process of finishing a film from this era, but it put a ceiling on how good this disc could look.
No excuses for the ridiculous looking steelbook, though.
Watched this last night and it's definitely worthy of the red category. Yes, the daytime scenes look a bit like a Blu-ray disc, mainly in the way that grain is managed in the 2K DI - there isn't much life to them. But the nighttime sequences absolutely pop out of the screen, and HDR is managed beautifully, particularly with details like the light on Gyllenhaal's camera. This is one strange and ridiculous movie, but for the right person it'll probably be a home run - two commentaries, too!

American Psycho 2026 re-issue has more extras and a better encode, taking the place of the old disc in the OP.

You're welcome. Picked up the "old" disc a month ago, which I haven't opened yet.

Thanks! Film really holds up too, hadn't seen it in ages. Mary Harron put such a very nice and distinct perspective on this that made it work, in lesser (probably male) hands I'm sure it would have turned out a cheap exploitation slasher. Sadly Harron can be filed under the Waning Art House Titans thread...I never even hear about
The Moth Diaries, or what came after.

I didn't have to open it & watch it again for the List project because I had watched it last year. The interviews with Harron & Bale that I had seen were really good (watched them on youtube, not sure if they're on the disc), particularly the bit about Harron having Bale watch Tom Cruise's appearance on Oprah as the model for his character. I hadn't really paid any attention to the book or the movie when each was released (I had written it off as probably just another slasher that was trying to be clever), but it really has held the test of time, probably better than Wall Street or Working Girl. I'm surprised that there's no thread for it or that Criterion or Arrow didn't pick it up (it has popped up periodically on the channel though).

3:10 to Yuma (Criterion) -
Chris’ review. Having gotten the disc today, I wholeheartedly agree with his sentiment. Stunning upgrade over the old master.

So Criterion’s 4K of Viridiana does after all looks somewhat different from Radiance’s Blu-ray per some stills posted on the other forum. I was expecting them to be indistinguishable from one another.
The Radiance is slightly darker, and the Criterion does have finer grain in some stills although maybe it’ll only make a difference to pixel peepers and be negligible from a normal viewing distance.
We’ll see I guess.
Maybe this means BFI’s 4K of Rocco and his Brothers will be a bigger upgrade over Eureka’s Blu-ray than one would expect.
P.S. I wonder if there’s any chance Radiance does a 4K of Viridiana themselves at some point.
I’ll admit “Rocco” and Viridiana are both titles I didn’t want to “have to” buy on 4K after already having solid 4K-sourced Blu-rays. Oh well…
On the other hand, if The Leopard ever gets a UHD, I’m all in.

I can’t remember reading any PQ reports but sound-wise, Eagle’s only has 5.1 compared to the SC with the original mono.

Rain Man (Capelight) &
Rain Man (MVD) -
caps.
First screenshots for Kino's Mimic. It's got a huge Dolby Vision FEL layer that slightly improves on the base HDR10 layer.
Spaceballs (Arrow) fixed the audio glitches that are in Kino's disc and adds the OG 4.1 mix.
The Night of the Hunter (Capelight) is now
confirmed to be the best of the available 4Ks.
Cutter's Way (Radiance) -
caps and
audio comparison.
Casino (Seven7 France) has Dolby Vision and Atmos unlike the US disc but was most likely encoded in the
wrong color space.
