Jeff I hope your wrong in a good way. I want Vivre sa Vie on blu. :D

Plus last year, it was announced by a article that Ride with the Devil was a May release for Criterion.

I imagine Summer Hours will be released on Blu as well. Haven't all of the IFC titles been released on both formats?

Yeah. I am thinking these clues are going to be stretch out into atleast 3 months. Then the Stagecoach and Cronos titles at the start of the summer.

Here is my random order:

Vivre Sa Vie + Blu
The Four Feathers
The Leopard + Blu
The Red Shoes + Blu

May

Ride with the Devil + Blu
Close-Up
Red Desert + Blu
M Blu-ray

June

Summer Hours + Blu

I think The Leopard will see a Blu release the same month they release Senso. One only hopes.

You're quite right there, David:

Now I only wonder whether the already released SD variant by arthaus has the same master; I only heard bad things about existing SDs of "Senso", but don't know about that arthaus edition. Has anyone seen it?

However, Criterion has stated flat-out that they will be bringing out Senso this year.

I recently purchased the French DVD, and I noticed that the Film Foundation was mentioned among the fund-raisers in the opening credits. Regretfully, no English captions are included. You either have to watch the original Italian version with French subtitles, or said edition dubbed in French w/o subs. The image appears soft, but color fidelity gets a thumbs-up. http://www.amazon.fr/Senso-Alida-Valli/ ... 949&sr=1-1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Wait for the Criterion.

Maybe not the only reason at this point, but I'm glad I've managed to not take the plunge, playerwise. Did go with the bfi DVD though, it's quite nice actually. Tempting as region-free BD access is for a few titles, got enough going on already without creating yet another kevyip. Look forward to Criterion's versions. Plenty to keep me going in the meantime. (Wish it'd been a blu-ray version of L'Eclisse that I watched last week, though.)

The 2001 Image disc of Antonioni's LE AMICHE is still in print, but, given their deal, might Criterion consider releasing a new edition of the fresh 2009 resto on Blu as well as DVD?...
LE AMICHE (1955, d. Michelangelo Antonioni) - Restored by Cineteca di Bologna at L’Immagine Ritrovata with funding provided by GUCCI and The Film Foundation. In Italian with English subtitles, 104 min.

I've been holding out on importing this one as it seems expensive for an old barebones release.

Haven't there been rumblings of a WALKABOUT blu Ray?

That's why is so frustrating that it hasn't even been officially announced yet, let alone released!

Walkabout has been delayed for a very good reason. Criterion decided the original materials were not in the best shape. They were not fit to do a Blu-ray transfer. They are in the process of doing a full photochemical restoration of the film. That means a lot of very expensive and time-consuming work, but they are saving the film and preserving it for future generations. I would expect a new preservation negative and prints to be made, and a possible theatrical tour before the Blu-ray release and DVD re-issue.

Yes, but these are just rumors, they didn't say the reasons for the delay, did they?

They have talked about their decision to do a full photochemical restoration causing a substantial delay.

At the risk of asking a rhetorical question, are those other ones any good? I think I've only heard of the one.

I believe Underworld was very influential on the crime films of the 30s, and is considered one of Sternbergs best.
I'm not sure what people say about The Last Command, is it as good as the others?

Does anyone know if Criterion has any plans on releasing any of their Hideo Gosha films on their label soon? I know they own the rights to 3 Outlaw Samurai and Bandits Vs Samurai Squadron and was wondering when they might release them.

Criterion has never said this would be released, but the director himself said that Criterion is working on this. This was a year ago.

Wasn't it part of their initial newsletter about what the first Blu-Ray's would be?
