Re: 'Forthcoming' Lists Discussion and Random Speculation Vol.2
So they let March go by without at least one of the unreleased Kurosawas appearing in a stand-alone edition?

They just decided to release those separately. I wouldn't expect any of them until late 2010 at the earliest. The schedule was already pretty clogged.Tommaso wrote:So they let March go by without at least one of the unreleased Kurosawas appearing in a stand-alone edition?

And here's the flipside to that complaint: three Kurosawa Blu-rays and still no Powell & Pressburger, Melville, or Antonioni.

Re: 'Forthcoming' Lists Discussion and Random Speculation Vol.2
But the Kurosawa films have already had some type of resto in their umpteen different releases. Thus making them easier to put onto BD. I'm sure those heavyweights are in the pipeline, they're just taking a little more love though.Matt wrote:And here's the flipside to that complaint: three Kurosawa Blu-rays and still no Powell & Pressburger, Melville, or Antonioni.

What Antonioni's are you hoping to be released? Just curious as I vinti, Il grido, L'avventura, La notte, L'eclisse and Il deserto rosso have all been well done now.Matt wrote:And here's the flipside to that complaint: three Kurosawa Blu-rays and still no Powell & Pressburger, Melville, or Antonioni.

Current post about toodling around in the George Eastman archive for Von Sternberg miscellany, which hopefully means they're polishing off supplements.
2010 will be a good year.

Which would mean a mainline release, not an Eclipse set - while we're speculating.Flike wrote:Current post about toodling around in the George Eastman archive for Von Sternberg miscellany, which hopefully means they're polishing off supplements.

I was only noting that title in particular because Criterion would likely be able to just use the same print that BFI used for their Blu-ray transfer (which is region-B locked).tavernier wrote:Among others.

Dunno how much credence we should give this, but it lists a few recent releases, one of which is apparently receiving the Criterion treatment in 2010.
Edit: I could swear I remember someone on here claiming both Los muertos and La graine et le mulet were on the slate.

Dogtooth is being distributed by Kino, so unless Criterion has been talking to them, I doubt it's that.FerdinandGriffon wrote:Dunno how much credence we should give this, but it lists a few recent releases, one of which is apparently receiving the Criterion treatment in 2010.

Kind of a lame "contest". Criterion announced that they were releasing Secret of the Grain months ago in their joint press release with IFC.

Ask Jim Jarmusch questions about the forthcoming Mystery Train.

Jour de fete has a new color print. The Criterion edition is likely to contain both versions.

Re: 'Forthcoming' Lists Discussion and Random Speculation Vol.2
This is a bit left field... But i recall years ago I watched "The Mark" (1961/Guy Green). I thought this film was great, looks to be right up CC's alley. The rights to this movie look to be under 20th Century Fox... I could be wrong though. Anyway, this small GEM would make a great addition to an already fantastic collection...

JOUR DE FETE - Of course it was shot in colour, so what are the 2 versions?... Excuse my ignorance...

Aren't there three versions of Jour de Fete? There's the color version, and black and white, but the partially hand-painted version...does it still exist?

Found this... Intro explains Tati shot with 2 cameras side by side - one shooting in colour, the second ('for security') in black and white... Get it now!...

But they were unable to process the colour footage for about fifty years, so for most of its life the film was only known in its black and white version. The colour version was a recent re-release / rediscovery.ellipsis7 wrote:Found this... Re: 'Forthcoming' Lists Discussion and Random Speculation Vol.2
Since most of the clues in the 2010 picture were for titles already announced for Jan-March, I feel pretty confident that the following are the April/May titles, but which titles will be in which months and which new titles will get Blus are random speculation on my part.
April
The Four Feathers
Vivre Sa Vie
By Brakahage: Volume 2 + Blu
Ride with the Devil + Blu
By Brakhage: Volume 1 Blu-ray
The Leopard Blu-ray
May
Close-Up
Summer Hours
Red Desert + Blu
The Red Shoes redux + Blu
M Blu-ray

Red Desert is the only reason I was even going to buy a region-free Blu-ray player
