On Facebook I asked about more Fritz Lang, Rancho Notorious and Ministry of Fear in particular. They said maybe. Any bets as to what Fritz Lang title Criterion likely has in the works?
Ministry of Fear is Universal and has never been released. Criterion seems to be raiding Universal's vaults as of late.
You Only Live Once is owned by the Caidin Trust that Criterion signed a deal with. It was licensed to Image and not Warners though. Unsure if the Caidin titles criterion licensed includes those licensed to Image or strictly the former Warners.
Hmm. Maybe both?

I just hope they don't release a title that MoC have already done a fine version of.

It seems likely to me it's one of Lang's American films. Most of the rights to his early films seem to be held by Kino.

"Maybe" is far from a yes. They won't say no to releasing a film by a director they like, even if there are currently no titles available to them at this time.

Does anyone know if Criterion has any plans for their Hideo Gosha films in the near future? They have held the rights to Three Outlaw Samurai and Bandits Vs Samurai Squad for awhile and was wondering if they had plans to release these soon?
These are great films and i'm truly hoping to see them in some form from Criterion.

Perhaps a Samurai set or a stand-alone Gosha Eclipse.

The Carlotta edition of Ministry of Fear could very well be up to CC's standards. Especially when you look at CC editions like That Hamilton's Woman.

I know it's early yet, but I'm going to be away from the Forum for awhile and was wondering what the consensus was on March releases? They've said via Facebook that Cronos and Stagecoach won't make it, while also saying two months on, one month off is about the best they can muster for Eclipse... so I'm not seeing that happen, either. All I'm leaning toward as probabilities so far are:
Ride With the Devil
Yojimbo and Sanjuro (Blu-ray)
The Pedro Costa box would be nice.

I'm thinking a Blu-ray release of Brakhage vol. 1 and Blu-ray and DVD releases of Brakhage vol. 2 could very well be a possibility. The same for
Vivre sa vie, possibly on Blu-ray and DVD also.

Y tu mamá también, or as Michael Phillips pronounces it, E 2 Momma Tombee-en.

Considering it's currently in theatrical release, does anyone have any guesses as to when House-oo is coming out?

Towards the end of next year, I'm guessing. We'll probably see a DVD release of
Dillinger Is Dead first.

On Facebook they said not to expect Y tu mama tambien until the end of 2010. I think Ride with the Devil has been confirmed for May. I doubt the second Brakhage set will see a release so soon, maybe April or May. Bigger than Life, Dillinger is Dead and Vivre sa vie are the most likely to be ready for March.

If all this turns out to be true, these are going to be a very expensive next few months.

Criterion pointed out on Facebook that since
Hausu is currently playing in theaters around the U.S., and will continue to do so, an announcement should only be expected after the theater run ends. So from that, to hazard a guess, it's possible we might see an announcement by late spring or, perhaps, a little later.

Criterion of course hinted that Out 1 wouldn't be their first Rivette. The real question is: will it be Paris nous appartient or Celine and Julie Go Boating? I'd be happy for either, but I haven't seen Paris nous appartient yet. I'm guessing it's probably one of these two. Any ideas?

It won't be CELINE AND JULIE. That and LA BELLE NOISEUSE were New Yorker properties at the time of the company's demise and are tied up in legal hell.

While I'd love to see an older Rivette, The Duchess of Langeais is an IFC title, so I'd say that seems more likely.

I swore Criterion already said that wasn't happening, oddly.

Did they? I remember them saying no to A Girl Cut in Two but can't recall them ever commenting on the Rivette?!

I think it was announced right at the beginning of the IFC speculation that it wasn't in play

From the Criterion Current
post...
As for other Kurosawa plans, we had hoped to celebrate the actual centenary, in March, with a Blu-ray edition of Seven Samurai, but weeks of additional restoration have turned into months—yes, it looks really amazing—and the release won’t be until later in 2010. Instead, on March 23, we’ll be releasing Kurosawa’s Yojimbo and Sanjuro. They look great, too.
So, no "Seven Samurai" blu-ray for March for all of those hopeful souls out there.

do I take from this that Sanjuro and Yojimbo will be Blu as well?
Honestly, knowing that The Seven Samurai will be blu by the end of the year is enough for me, and Sanjuro and Yojimbo on Blu are just as welcome at this point. The only other Kurosawa film I would absolutely love on blu is The Bad Sleep Well, but I bet that is far down the to-do list.

Do I get a prize?*
*I thought it obvious after they "kicked off" the Kurosawa festivities on their Facebook page with a clip from Yojimbo.
