He calls it a “Faustian tale with noir elements”

Yeah I figured it was due to the fantasy parts, but I wasn’t thinking that extra dressings would discount the thematic or stylistic signifiers already there. I struggle with eliminating a genre from categorization due to more than one element present (as opposed to if something is missing) thereby booting them from relevance based on a ridiculous notion of mutual exclusivity.

Okay that makes more sense, though I’m interested to hear the commentary go into the rigidity around its exclusion from genre, if he makes a point to specifically say so

I peaced out after a while so he very well might (nothing for or against his commentary, just sampling it for now)

The Winslow Beaver
Still hoping that Indicator eventually get to this film.

No nudie shots in this one for Gary, so we obviously didn't get the version on Amazon Prime

The Impact really is overpriced (especially when you figure in importing costs) for an admittedly nice transfer and one audio commentary and a making of. If no one else releases the film within the next two years and this disc can be had at a sale, I'll get one but again, I'd be surprised if the film doesn't come from Indicator eventually (interviews with Mamet and Hall? Northam? Hawthorne sadly passed away).

It's definitely a risk not jumping on the label's bandwagon, but I'm doing the same. I don't think you're gonna get any of these discs at a sale price if no other label releases them- they'll be going for more ridic prices than they already are- but yeah, I have to imagine that it'd be pretty easy for one of the U.K. labels to swoop in and deliver the same or more at a reduced price.

I feel the same. I want Hard Eight but not at that expense. I'll wait

Having said that, it is cool that these are all basically getting commentaries commissioned, and it's hard to imagine some of the less prominent titles getting that treatment elsewhere

The latest batch at DD all have a list-price of 50.99 (up from 44.99), so they’re even pricier now.

But the actual price difference is less than two dollars before any extra discounts

Hard Eight is already sold out direct from Imprint so I'd act fast getting it from somewhere else unless you're holding out for another label

I see Amazon US is allowing you to pre-order the forthcoming Imprint Blu-ray of Bridges at Toko-Ri for the low, low price of oh, never mind

A bit late, but in case anybody hasn't seen them, the newly announced titles are:
Let It Ride (1989)
Regarding Henry (1991)
Scarface (1932)
The Two Worlds of Jennie Logan (1979)
The Mothman Prophecies (2002)
Timeline (2003)

Looks like they've finally started listing some standard editions with the original 5 titles. You save AU$10 without the cardboard.

This label seriously commissioned a NEW commentary from Drew Casper? Talk about throwing your money away

They initially reached out to Richard Schickel, but he was unresponsive.

Weren't there some complaints about the Scarface Blu-Ray Uni coupled with their UHD of the DePalma one? Hopefully Imprint managed to get a good source for the Hawks.

Excellent, I have to imagine Detective Story is soon to follow from somebody, I'm surprised it wasn't the first one from that box to get another boutique upgrade!

It’s Paramount, isn’t it? So maybe Eureka? Doesn’t seem like a Criterion title, and I don’t think Kino has a deal with them.
