can anyone confirm that the JLG/JLG dvd has english subtitles? Does it have english subtitles in the box set? It says subtitles: english for the box set, but I'm not convinced that it means that everything has english subtitles, or that the single dvd will have english subtitles just because it did in the box set.

From what I understand, everything in the set is english subtitled apart from that long recent interview with Godard which I think has it's own disk or something? I don't have the set yet so I can't confirm anything, but I'm fairly sure that the boxset JLG/JLG is subbed going by memory of something I read... Hopefully someone with the set can chime in!

Good news about the Pialat and Clouzot especially but suggests that the Dreyer will be a different provenance to the MoC?
Wonder also what L'Atalante will have up its sleeve.

How about the old Édition Collector 2 DVD, according to Amazon.fr it has English subs. Can you confirm is this true?

I got the info re the resto from the Gaumont site which to be honest is not always 100% accurate so will check again nearer release for other reviews

Annnnd on another topic, does anyone know anything about the upcoming Blu of Querelle? Blu-ray.com has it down as having the English, French and German audio but I can't find a source for this online... Would be amazing if it had english subs as well...

Re. Querelle (just expanding a bit on what I've said elsewhere).

It's region free - I ejected the disc and toggled my player and it played in region A and B.

It's english friendly with the english dub and removable subtitles. However the white inter titles throughout the movie are in French.

The image is extremely soft. I put in my old Columbia Tristar DVD to compare and while the image on that one looks extremely old and washed out I would say the very small jump in detail is only apparent in the slightly better rendering of textures e.g. The fringing on the lamps in the bar or the model ship in the background and sweat/chest hair on sailors.

The real jump is that the movie now looks 100% natural and film like with extremely vivid colours. It's hard to tell if it's maybe just the colour tints used on the picture that makes the image so soft?

It certainly isn't sharp as a tack like the Olive release of Despair. But maybe they were filmed differently?

Also after having watched it the whole way through I would say the scenes that take place in Feria are a lot softer than the other scenes in the movie. My assessment on the softness was from sitting right in front of the TV. While I was sitting on the couch it looked amazing.

You misunderstood.

Gaumont are releasing Finis as stand alone in a la demande series. The POTEMKINE BOX is delayed or whatever. This may now not contain Finis but that's sheer speculation on my part.
