Unfortunately L'Avventura is Mr. Bongo property. If we think that 1960 nearly qualifies it'd be great to see La Dolce Vita but not a debut obviously, the Nouveaux disc was last issued in September 04 so, like Rocco, we could see the rights move to MoC. With regards to this one I have no guesses except like David to say La Tete contre les murs, or perhaps Hiroshima mon amour?

If we're saying approximately 50 years old, then perhaps Le Beau Serge, recently released by Madman.

My money's on a Blu-ray of Russ Meyer's The Immoral Mr Teas - it's fifty years old, it's a debut, and it's a genuine groundbreaker, so how would it not qualify?

Yes, that would be great. It would be nice to have a Chabrol from MoC.

Btw, what happened to FSimeoni?

Do with Marcel Pagnol what you have already done with Mizoguchi, that would be great.

Is that just a wild guess? Great news if this turns out to the film they picked up. It is unavailable here in Norway, but I´ve heard some great things about it, and would by an MoC edition in a heartbeat. Some more info in the the film.

I never heard about that film before, but from the description you linked to it sounds very, very interesting! An MoC of it would be close to a blind buy for me.

No it`s not a wild guess. To be honest, a member from another forum posted that this might be an option.

I would have expected something of Arne Schouen as a first Norwegian film, but Jakten would be great.

Guy is a twittering machine today:
mastersofcinema: No releases from us in July, but August sees two more Maurice Pialat gems. PASSE TON BAC D'ABORD and NOUS NE VIEILLIRONS PAS ENSEMBLE.
mastersofcinema: Loads more to announce for later in the year. The Silent Lubitsch box will definitely appear before Xmas, as will SOUL POWER. More soon.
mastersofcinema: One other mystery box from us before Xmas (and a bunch of other normal releases!)

Hmmm... Naruse Vol.2 ?!

Not too happy about Lubitsch Silents being a box set; I have the distinct feeling there will be one or two films in there which are not in the Transit box; but I will NOT double-dip! (well, that' what I say now....).

Stuff Naruse! There's enough to get on with re. Bfi and MoC- and I don't think Volume 1 did that well ( if I remember from an old post from peerpee)

What we want by the shitload is an Epstein box!

I hope the mystery box is Eisenstein silents. Just to confuse everyone.

But I *really* hope its that Akerman 70s box.

I didn't even dare to DREAM about the Epstein being a box set. But of course, yes yes yes!

I feel the same. The Transit box is a real gem, but remember, it doesn't have English subs, so MoC would be doing a great service to the non-German proficient out there. There are a number of incredible Lubitsch silents that aren't in the Transit box that I'd love to have (esp. the pre-1919 stuff). If MoC can secure at least two of these and get some excerpts from Sabine Hake's excellent book in a nice thick booklet I will double-dip.

Absolutely. I wasn't saying they shouldn't release the Transit films, but remember that all these films are already available to the English-speaking world via Kino, though with replaced intertitles; so I can't see many who have the Kino discs double-dipping on a whole BOX just to get, say, "Schuhpalast Pinkus" or "Carmen" (to name just two much-desired titles). In other words: I generally prefer Kino's policy to make all the discs available on their own. Perhaps a splitting-up of the discs in individual two-disc-sets a la the Mizoguchis might be a good idea, with all of them simultaneously available as a huge box set for those who don't yet have any of them.

And actually, we do not yet know whether there will be any films in the MoC set that are not available elsewhere. I could imagine that the most likely candidates for filling-up the Transit box contents would be "Die Puppe" (because Kino released it, too) and "Dubarry" (because it has been restored and given a new soundtrack not too long ago).

Okay, we know about "Phantom", and I hope hope hope hope that the other film will be "Der brennende Acker", though I very much fear it will be either "Vogelöd" or "Großherzog". Or these two together with "Phantom" getting a standalone release at a later point (which that film would clearly deserve).

I'm guessing that 'Halloween' means Phantom and Vogelod. Ultimately, I'm sure we'll have every available Murnau in a fine MoC edition, however.
