I'm not sure if this is old news since I admittedly don't follow Visconti DVD releases as much as others, but Koch Lorber will be releasing Visconti's Ludwig onto R1 DVD this fall.

I don't believe there is a cover yet.

Ha! Unbelievable ... Ludwig is one of those titles that they've been promising since 2000 or so, back in the Fox Lorber days. A rival for Fantoma's Dead Pigeon on Beethoven Street as the most delayed DVD of all time....

And it'll probably look like crap, of course.

Look like crap? There may be some combing, but their two recent Godard releases were pretty stellar. What makes you think it will be crap?

Ah, excellent! I've been curious about this film for ages. How does it stand in the Visconti canon?

Koch Lorber blows Joy House

Sorry but the Koch Lorber disc does not look worse than the Image. They look fairly similar all around with the Koch disc showing a bit more detail at times and the Image at other times. For dvdbeaver to continue to take these harsh stances against something far more trivial once you look at the screen caps... well, it's not below them, but it's certainly beginning to wear on me. With it's sensationalism, and often undeserving animosity, I can't help but see them as the Fox News of DVD Review sights. A few baseless tidbits:

the combing is horrendous with lots of artefacts - worse than the improper-standard 'ghosting' on the old Image disc.

Just a matter of personal taste perhaps, but the Koch Lorber caps look awfully contrasty to my eyes--quite a few blown-out highlights. The Image has a smoother range of grays.

Ludwig finally coming October 14:

The two-disc set presents the digitally remastered Ludwig in its original widescreen 2.35:1 aspect ratio and Dolby Digital sound. Cut by its producer and distributors upon its initial release, the movie has been restored to its 238-minute length. Koch Lorber Films presents it in Italian with English subtitles, and extra features include documentaries about director Visconti, writer Susan Cecchi D’Amico, costume designer Petro Tosi and more.

Run Time : 238 mins. + extras/2 Discs

No, as far as I know. I did receive a copy from my wholesaler last week, but don't know anything about retailers though

Whoa, nice. The MGM is non-anamorphic and the R2 is cropped from 1.66 to 1.78, so this is good news indeed

I bought the Ferreri set from Ebay for 55$ delivered
However,i missed an earlier auction which ended at 45$ delivered
So far i've tracked 11 Ferreri flicks on English-friendly DVDs:
The 8 in the boxset,The Harem as well as Dillinger is Dead and Liza from Raro Video.

Just received Koch Lorber's Marco Ferreri box set, which contains the rarely seen uncut 113 minute version of BYE BYE MONKEY, almost 20 minutes longer than any of the transfers available previously (such as Image's Region 1 DVD). The main addition is a scene with William Berger, who was completely eliminated from the shorter variant (though, curiously, he's still not credited).

According to Koch, the 2-DVD set includes a bonus documentary, “Isabelle Huppert: A Life of Acting”.

Anyone else have trouble with the Koch Lorber Violette DVD, besides the fact that the transfer is atrocious? I've purchased it THREE times from DVD Planet, and every single time the disc starts to sputter at around the 40 minute mark. I've tried this on four different players.

Just curious if anyone else has experienced this, or perhaps its just a fluke. Would it be wise to call Koch and ask for a replacement personally? I love this film too much to wait for another version...

P.S. I know there are versions in other regions, I'm region-locked.

I don't think there are any version with English subs, which is why the cropped transfer is so disappointing

Is this one's aspect ratio/ subtitles any good?

I sent it back when I first got it because I recall it said 4:3 on the box, but I think this from amazon is probably accurate: "Although the back of the case erroneously reads 4:3, the film is shown at 1.85:1 (or thereabouts). " I guess that still leaves the anamorphic part in limbo.

Yeah that's where my confusion stems from. I'll just double check if it is actually 1.85, which I assume is the proper, via Netflix (why I didn't join sooner I don't know)
