Worth noting that a 23 year old commentary was the first clue to its potential whereabouts.

What's funny is that there's a good chance it's been in the Academy's (excellent) online catalog for years. I understand why it took so long for someone to look, since it's not the obvious depository for a film like this, but this seems like one of those "hiding in plain sight" situations.

I'd caution on waiting for reviews/screenshots of Wild Zero. Don May mentioned on a podcast that the licensor was only offering a terrible SD upscale master.

Interesting, but that makes me think we should expect something special. New Wave have so far primarily gone after titles which don’t have HD masters or have been unavailable due to complex Japanese rights issues; so I imagine they will be spearheading their own scan rather than issuing an upscaledwk wrote: Sat Oct 31, 2026 3:15 pm I'd caution on waiting for reviews/screenshots of Wild Zero. That would be nice, but the film was cut on video not film, so I'm not holding my breath.
I double checked what Don said and he he said the licensor offered them a 4K master, but he looked at it and it clearly was a 480 master upscaled to 1080, so he passed on it.
