It’s when the Coen’s finally got the rights to use the song in the home release that they decided to go back in trim it a bit, creating the now ubiquitous director’s cut. There was obviously much more cut from Blood Simple than from Miller’s Crossing.
I believe this refers to the bartop dancing scene, and the Criterion correctly restores the use of The Four Tops' "The Same Old Song"?

Yes - in the initial home video version, this song was replaced by "I'm a Believer" by Neil Diamond - it reverted back to "The Same Old Song" for the Director's Cut.

As for there being more or less cut from the original Blood Simple or Miller's Crossing, it's all relative of course. But in Blood Simple, they reduced the character of Meurice to be almost nothing, removing entire scenes with him - which is pretty noticeable in a move that used to feature 5 characters and now essentially only has 4. Whereas in Miller's Crossing, aside from that one "Jesus, Tom", I had trouble discerning the cuts.

The Movie-Censorship site has good breakdowns. The Blood Simple recut actually includes a shot that is not in the original version
