At some point it’ll show up on retail sites with a new street date, and that will be the standard edition. I suspect that’ll happen either before or at the same time as Radiance’s release in the Fall, so it’s not like some egregious FOMO before the version we knew was coming hits the streets

As swo pointed out, I’ve still not seen anyone say they actually bought the standard edition. It seems more likely, being a VSL release, that they’ve chosen to run through the ltd edition first and it was never available in the first place. You could ask them about it via email.

It’s a smart business move considering how cheap the standard edition price is marked at, and they know they’re competing with Radiance’s forthcoming release with a strong edge in an extra film. For U.S. importers, their LE will still probably be cheaper than Radiance’s three film box set, so why cut your profit margins so significantly? It’s a good deal either way - often times single-film VS releases cost as much as this four-film LE, and people rarely complain!

Wow, Her Smell is cheap as well, and totally worth it for the LE's cool packaging

Anything else on that sale list worth getting?

I can’t find this “sale list,” but I do see that The Films of Doris Wishman: The Twilight Years in the Limited Edition packaging is $25, an unbeatable price for 7 of her most well-known films (I hesitate to say “best”). Probably the best set to jump into her work with if you’re curious.

The sale page is here. Does anyone recommend Six String Samurai? I’m tempted by the 4K.

I've been wondering if I'm the right audience for these. If I enjoy the Ormond and Murphy sets, John Waters, Final Flesh, etc. but not dull trash like the Emanuelle Severin films, where do I stand with Wishman?

The only Wishmans I've ever seen are the Chesty Morgan films in that box. That was a long time ago, but I do not know I've seen a more depressing exploitation film since. I'm sure there's a good take to be had on them -- her peformance is Bressonian! -- but I remember it as being the very definition of going through the motions.

I saw Let Me Die a Woman about forty years ago in a triple bill with Glen or Glenda and Thundercrack - first-time viewings in all cases; I’d have been sixteen.

I’ve rewatched two of them since, and you can probably guess which ones.

They’re more in line with stuff like Al Adamson. If you have Criterion Channel a number of them are streaming right now.

Vinegar Syndrome et al.

They are definitely not as trashy and dull as the Emmanuelle films. Similar maybe to early John Waters but without the wit or the queerness (though The Amazing Transplant and Let Me Die a Woman are transploitation films). Or early Russ Meyer, also without the wit and without the technique. Or Andy Milligan without the return-of-the-repressed obsessiveness. They’re basically your standard late-sixties sexploitation films but made in the seventies by one of the very few women working in the genre and by someone who had a lot of wild ideas but absolutely no grasp of basic film technique. They can be extremely dull and/or grating but there’s also nothing quite like them.

Even worse. No one to blame but yourself.

[I have great affection for each of these films but one at a time is already rough going. Can’t imagine a triple feature.]

Well, then here’s Wishman goading Ebert into flirting as an apology.

I could be wrong and it's something else entirely but intuition says it will either be Doom Generation or Kids. I don't think it will be Showgirls.

I did guess Freeway correctly! :)
I remember (but I can't find the thread when I found it) a color grading comparison between Chloé Sevigny in "Kids" apparently from a new restoration.
Is it just for a theatrical release; or will there be a blu-ray ? If yes, what editor/label is behind this new blu-ray.
There has been a blu-ray release (I think it's OOP now)

I don't know what transfer they are using but Umbrella is releasing Kids on Blu-ray in Australia this very week.

thanks; I figure that I watched probably a rip  of the German blu-ray transfer, by looking at the color grading of the 2 pictures.
Is there a US release planned ?

Do we have some details about the Umbrella Australian release ? Is Umbrella a "trusted" label ?

from what I read from their comment they don't seem to have done a new restoration, it seems that they have tried to reconstruct the original color grading from theaters; thus probably the "blue tint" comes from the German blu-ray. I wish they would have done something like Fucking Åmål by Arrow (which looks way more than just a digital remastering).
"The color-corrected grading has taken place by referencing the original 35mm print we have on hand. We have done our best to replicate what it would have looked like upon release in theatres. By 'original' here, we meant the existing HD master, which has a blue tint compared to the original release master."

rewatching this movie, the taxi scene is perhaps one of the saddest scene in this movie.

Did anyone experience a glitch on their Vinegar Syndrome's disc of Piotr Szulkin's THE WAR OF THE WORLDS: NEXT CENTURY?
My disc freezes briefly at 4:47 into the movie (the first elevator scene), and then skips to ~ 4:57 mark. Not a big deal, but annoying. Greatly enjoying the films in these set otherwise. Such a fantastic discovery.

I’d email them about it. I had another release I received from the sale skip a minute, they sent a replacement, and it didn’t skip. If it’s a known issue, hopefully they’ll flag it
