But no word on if they’ll include films where rights are already owned by US labels?

La classe operaia va in paradiso is a strong choice, glad it’s one of the first ones out of the gate
domino harvey wrote: Sun Jul 02, 2017 7:01 am La classe operaia va in paradiso (Elio Petri 1971) And here are modern class concerns done right. I didn’t get much out of Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion but this repairing of the director and star Gian Maria Volontè is terrific. Volontè’s perf as the company man factory worker who revolutionizes after an injury is propulsive and bombastic and, like everything else in the film, captured with claustrophobic and disorienting close-ups. It is a film that captures the mania in the mundane and the chaos inherent in breaking with the norms. Highly recommended

Will be interesting to compare it to the recent US release, sadly both are simply "high definition scans" rather than better source material or restorations.
Both releases are virtually going to look the same if they are using the same master, so the main draw here will be the extras.

I've also went for the Gold package. I wasn't in a position to go for the Arrow one but it looked like it paid off handsomely for those who did. I'll just sell off any I'm not interested in.

When do we start dropping Deville suggestions in the Discord?

if that's gold, can silver be a yearly subscription at least? I can probably spring for that (would be what, ~$500 USDish?). considering the gold is probably gonna sell out, I'm sure Fran's already looking at this as an option

definitely a big deal to license Sony and MGM out of the gate, especially knowing he's not going to aim for too much classic Hollywood type stuff. leaves some interesting possibilities. the willingness to work with Solondz (who is on the release!) is promising given no US label is likely going to touch Happiness, considering they didn't even go for Dollhouse. completely unfair to Todd in basically every regard, so glad to see that.

and then of course Man on the Roof is a Svensk Filmindustri title, which leads to a lot of cool possibilties

That is a potentially cool feature, though I wonder if it'll turn into a BR type forum.. if Fran and co are paying attention to it, I suppose that a bunch of voices screaming Deville, Ruiz, Chabrol, Mouret et al. would be the most pronounced method to influence these films coming to disc thus far, especially if the invited voices are ones actionably willing to finance the label's growth

Looking up Le plein de super, I was surprised to see that it made Time Out Paris' 100 Best French Films list at 71, between Du côté d'Orouët and Sauve qui peut (la vie). It's also a particular favorite of Cahiers critic Charlotte Garson.

This is such a really brave move, given not only the current state of physical media but the lack of 'big-hitters' in the launch, and a huge vote of confidence in cinephiles everywhere. Very iimpressed.

I've been trying to get a Gold package, but being in Guernsey is really confusing it - there's no option on the drop down menu so have to choose UK, it obviously recognises my postcode as Guernsey though as VAT is taken off, but the combination of the two is just too much and I get the "non deliverable" message.

Oh, and on the Sight and Sound clue earlier - I assume this must be for Welcome to the Dollhouse, which somehow I missed when I scanned the contents for likely contenders (maybe I thought this obviously already had a release!).

EDIT: Sorted.

Well I just signed up for the US one at $1200, so I'll be shouting those names in particular on the discord.

Awesome! So the U.S. MDV package is live and expectedly cheaper but not including the titles already having U.S. releases. Curious if this'll wind up being as financially lucrative as the U.K. bundle, depending on how many titles across a 3-year span are A v B. It's interesting that the blurb on MDV state that Radiance expects to release "1-2 releases a month in Year 1, 2-3 a month in Year 2 and 3 or more a month in Year 3" since that's one title short than the U.K. blurb, but the initial bundle shipped only includes half the titles (five vs ten), and some of the ones that are absent don't have U.S. releases to be knowledge (i.e. the Widerberg)

Here is the link to the 3-year package for North America. I wouldn't be surprised if it sells out in a day. $1200 for a forecast of maybe 90 titles is slightly less of a good deal but these are just forecasts anyway. It's interesting that the UK FAQ said the majority of titles would be Region B while this one says the majority will be Region A. I assume this means that like 2/3rds of the titles will actually be joint region A/B.

The Discord group chat is very illuminating and reassuring. Fran is focusing on all the right areas and while not everything is possible, he's doing what he can.

It's always possible we get titles that the UK already has from another label, similar to what Arrow and 88 has done.

I'm struggling to get on- I keep entering my phone number under the right country and don't get a texted code to join, then have to exit and try again and same thing. The hilariously specific and cheekily cute 'are you human?' tests like picking out dog vs cat cookies, when some are Made By a 3y/o-ambiguous, at least makes me laugh a bit during this frustrating experience

Hmmm...I don't even remember what I did to log in, just followed the link from the personal invitation email. I don't recall being asked for my phone number or texted a code. I did have to identify which horses were walking out of a bunch of horse pictures though, if that helps (it doesn't)

Huh, I wonder if that means they'll be doing Region A-only releases down the line, because those numbers don't really work otherwise. I'd assumed it'd be B gets everything and A gets about half. Looks like the B package sold out overnight!

As for the Discord being illuminating... what am I missing? I just see a bunch of welcome messages and a few jokes? I've only glanced at Discord before, but I don't see other channels/threads/rooms/whatever-they're-called-this-time...

I'm emailing with Fran to try to figure it out. I really don't mind playing these games though- I've luckily gotten the cat and dog cookies verification a bunch of times and I want to meet whoever made these cookies. It's the cutest thing ever. And yes, I'm saying that about an anti-bot program

Maybe try signing up for Discord independently, and then following the link?

And no, swo, I only see #general in the Text Channels sidebar on the left, and when I click the Threads button, I see "There are no threads."

Had to be added to those channels separately, apparently, but someone did once I asked about them.

And yes, that recommendations channel is heartening. I was doubtful about backing due to the seemingly inevitable drift of boutique labels toward genre ghettoization, but the launch slate's variety and riskiness and now the hints of what Fran's been pursuing—whether successfully or not—have me very intrigued.

For the record, the projected output numbers for the similar Arrow deal were vastly underestimated. (And with that deal you got every version of every release, so the leftovers are currently occupying a couple of shelves in my garage!)

Are the crossed out prices on Radiance's site the MSRP? If so, the US discs have an MSRP that is about $15 higher than their UK counterparts. $34.99 vs. £16.99 (currently $19.55)

I wouldn’t fret over potentially having some Region A only titles. Even if that happens, there will be a way to address this.
I’m actually excited to see what some of the extras in terms of books and similar type items will be that are part of the Discord group, Fran already hinted at some possibilities.
And for those not part of the Discord group, the forum members here who are, already did a great job at suggesting many of the titles that are being sought after here.

I’m really happy to see what Fran is doing and how he is approaching this. I think we can expect to see some great movies none of us would have expected to see a physical media release (as is evident with the first slate already).
