Re: Twilight Time / Redwind
Just noticed that they've got Sword of Sherwood Forest, which is a Hammer film directed by Terence Fisher for those interested.

MY SISTER EILEEN and WILL SUCCESS SPOIL ROCK HUNTER are at the top of my list.

I think I'll hold off on these for now as they're not 20th Century Fox titles and could be licensed over here, although Exodus and other MGM/United Artists licenses all have the Fox logo on them so who knows.
The Captain from Castillle looks up my ally so I'll added to my wishlist before I push the button on a new order.

Fox has been MGM/UA's home video distributor since 2006. That deal expires next month and MGM has already said it won't be renewed. Universal is the most likely new partner.Apperson wrote: Sun May 10, 2020 9:42 pmI think I'll hold off on these for now as they're not 20th Century Fox titles and could be licensed over here, although Exodus and other MGM/United Artists licenses all have the Fox logo on them so who knows.

That implies that they will still be licensing the catalogue to boutique labels once that partenship is finalized, so I will hold off unless someone explains otherwise.

Re: Twilight Time / Redwind
I just ordered Pretty Poison and Next Stop, Greenwich Village for Fox titles, both of which are highly recommended, along with the already mentioned Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter? after discovering that to my amazement I didn't own it yet. Though you snagged Peyton Place which is all that really matters.Apperson wrote: Sun May 10, 2020 8:21 pm So after finding out at the 11th hour of their existence that TT are for the most part Region Free and coupled with he demise of 20th Century Fox, can anyone recommend any Fox titles in on their website and on Screen Archives for that matter?
At that price, I don't see why anyone would pass on My Sister Eileen. I didn't even buy the blu-ray that long ago and have already watched it several times, though it is an all-time favorite so I'm biased. It looks great to me and, while I'd double dip in a heartbeat, I don't know of any indication that another label will release it anytime soon. I hope Indicator's ear is close to this forum though.

Re: Twilight Time / Redwind
This shipping is absurd
Some titles I never see discussed: I can highly recommend Inferno, which is like Gerry only with Robert Ryan playing a crippled asshole slowly dying in the desert who has to figure out how to survive so he can kill Rhonda Fleming for leaving him there. Walsh's the Revolt of Mamie Stover is probably the best prostitute becomes Hawaiian real estate tycoon movie ever, but it's okay. And Broken Lance if you somehow don't already have it is a western remake of Mankiewicz' House of Strangers that's actually better than the original!
On the non-Fox tip: Gidget and Anne of the Thousand Days are also much better than you'd think from the outside looking in and this is a good excuse to finally pick them up!
Sad to see I missed Forever Amber though...

And Inferno is on the low stock warning list, so might want to jump on that. It's great, I can't imagine anyone here not enjoying it at least a little

I'll second the Adventures of Hajji Baba since it doesn't get mentioned enough and I can't see anyone else releasing it again. It's from Don Weis who many might know for I Love Melvin.domino harvey wrote: Sun May 10, 2020 11:44 pm Oh, and the Adventures of Hajji Baba, a favorite of Cahiers with some tres unusual visual delights

It's a film where you admire its bizarre bravado and have to ask yourself, "Is this movie really happening?" and the unusual sparsely configured mise-en-scene is to die for.Glowingwabbit wrote: Sun May 10, 2020 11:47 pmI'll second the Adventures of Hajji Baba since it doesn't get mentioned enough and I can't see anyone else releasing it again. Of course, side note, Cottafavi did the absurdly well-blocked olden times adventure story like twenty better a few years later with his one-two punch of Amazons of Rome and Messalina, which pick up the baton with gusto and are two of the greatest examples of what pure, unencumbered mise-en-scene looks like. Even in a crowded field for the 60s, I think I'll have room for both of those on my best of the decade list. Can Arrow release those instead of whatever they have on the docket?

I've also always loved the fact that the theme song is on a constant loop through most of the feature.domino harvey wrote: Sun May 10, 2020 11:53 pmIt's a film where you admire its bizarre bravado and have to ask yourself, "Is this movie really happening?" and the unusual sparsely configured mise-en-scene is to die for.Glowingwabbit wrote: Sun May 10, 2020 11:47 pmI'll second the Adventures of Hajji Baba since it doesn't get mentioned enough and I can't see anyone else releasing it again. That song has never left my head. No lie, I end up singing it every time I see the title somewhere!

Wow, Cutters Way sold out as I was about to check out, so I had to delete it and try again, and then The Most Beautiful Wife sold out in the 20 seconds it took to re-check out. I guess the site is really being ransacked. I wouldn't wait on anything you may want.

Also not a Fox title, but I'll throw in a post for Member of the Wedding, which I just wrote a bit about for the 50s thread and it's probably safe to say that, even if you don't like, you'll get at least $7 worth of eye-rolls and one undeniably tender moment out of it.
Also, note that the email they just sent out says you can save $5 with the code "coins" if you spend $50+ and order Three Coins in the Fountain.

Yep, I was going to be more judicious and watch a few titles I hadn't seen yet, but I ended up placing an order for what I knew I'd want. These prices, even with the dumb shipping, are actually, for once in this label's history, truly a good dealGrand Wazoo wrote: Sun May 10, 2020 11:58 pm Wow, Cutters Way sold out as I was about to check out, so I had to delete it and try again, and then The Most Beautiful Wife sold out in the 20 seconds it took to re-check out. I fondly remember teaching excerpts of this to my students to explain how studios initially saw the appeal of 'Scope. That is, I think, where any real interest for anyone here will start and stop. Kind of tempted to pick it up just because no one is ever going to release it again, but it's really not very good!senseabove wrote: Sun May 10, 2020 11:59 pm Also, note that the email they just sent out says you can save $5 with the code "coins" if you spend $50+ and order Three Coins in the Fountain.

Merrily We Live is a bargain basement My Man Godfrey rip off, but it's an amusing one and definitely worth $8

Is this sale on TT's website? Haven't bought from them in a long time so I'm totally in the dark.

Re: Twilight Time / Redwind
Damn, I just ordered Peyton Place today based on the forum's recs, and have just realized I already purchased it a few months back. Shitty memory. Twbb, this is your fault!
Other TT discs listed here I've ordered not so long ago based on this forum's recs (and all still unwatched): My Sister Eileen, No Down Payment, The Long Hot Summer, The Incident.
Auto Focus is another I own that I enjoyed when I first saw it. And I forgot to mention I love to death Cassevetes' Gloria, although I think I may be in the minority here (?).
It's not great, but The True Story of Jesse James is a perfectly OK Nicholas Ray film that I enjoy anyway.
Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter? is available from MOC, so I'll wait to get that one (and the TT is a bit teal-ish).

These four all get huge recommendations from me, as does my beloved Inserts. Assuming any of you aren't like Rayon Vert and already safely own most of these, get on it!Rayon Vert wrote: Mon May 11, 2020 12:11 am Damn, I just ordered Peyton Place today based on the forum's recs, and have just realized I already purchased it a few months back. If anyone is desperate for a title that sells out on Twilight TIme, you might be able to order it from screen archives (of course the sale % won't be as good)
