Re: Criterion Discussion and Random Speculation Volume 7
After last month's delay, here's a quicker turnaround for this month's Speculation Rodeo! (January '20)
All About my Mother - Apparently all Almodovar films are coming at some point, but otherwise a surprise!
Fail Safe - Sep 2019 newsletter clue
Le Petit Soldat - On the Criterion Channel but otherwise not speculated!
Holiday - Confirmed several times; 1st notice was from Post magazine back in April.
The Fugitive Kind - March of random upgrades; a surprise
=================================================
235 Upgrades remain to be upgraded
-Prince of Tides is back (once again) to being the only remaining Newsletter clue
---------------------
And this month's All-Around Cowpoke Golden Lariat goes to......
Criterionsnob!
For being the only person to get All About my Mother. A few people mentioned Holiday, but Criterionsnob got the surprise pick.
And since Halloween is soon approaching, everybody do the Lurch! Speculation Rodeo away!

Soderbergh just Tweeted this, but no hint of which company will be releasing it:
Coming soon: 4K HDR remaster of THE LIMEY....

He said something similar about Solaris over a year ago. I hope that's still in the works...

Has anyone got a prediction of when Criterion will be releasing 'Come and See on Blu ray. I recently got the 'Artificial Eye' version and I was wondering if it came from a different print, or if it is any different in picture quality to the 'Nouveux Pictures' 2006 release?

Re: Criterion Discussion and Random Speculation Volume 7
Eric Skillman has posted on twitter a bunch of sketches he's done during meetings, including two for unannounced titles (with the titles blurred.)
First one is most likely Come and See. Any one have any idea what the second one could be?

The last one might be for a Buñuel that was recently restored. Perhaps Los Olvidados. I have a feeling it could be an interpretive cover of Greed (1925) but that could be wishful thinking.

Janus tweeted this pic for a Polish poster of COME AND SEE. It will most likely hit Janus first before Criterion releases it.Blueghostontoast wrote:Has anyone got a prediction of when Criterion will be releasing 'Come and See on Blu ray. My guess for the 2nd picture is Almodovar's Bad Education. The DVD cover had the similar art with cut through middle of the face.

I'm pretty sure the title of the 2nd picture starts with a "C".

Someone at the Blu-ray.com forum suggested that second one says Cabaret.

The second one reminds me of Cocteau in general. Maybe The Blood of a Poet?

I think it says “The (Something)” in cursive

The bottom one kind of looks like "El". Sticking with Bunuel for no particular reason, maybe "El Bruto"? The title character works in a slaughterhouse.

Re: Criterion Discussion and Random Speculation Volume 7
Any one believe there is a chance Criterion could release Paul Dano's directorial debut, Wildlife? It hasn't yet been released on any format in the US, it played nowhere around my hometown. Dano's been on Criterion's Adventures in Moviegoing and he's recently been in their closet. The movie is from IFC, so there's another connection. I've almost bought the UK release, but I'm certain as soon as I do Criterion will release it. And if I don't buy it, it will languish in no man's land here in the US.

Re: Criterion Discussion and Random Speculation Volume 7
Last week someone on, I think, Reddit posted that they were recently at Criterion's office and they met Paul Dano in thei reception area. This was clearly after both the Adventures and closet videos had been recorded, so him being there working on a Wildlife release seems possible.

Scorsese apparently confirmed that ITALIANAMERICAN is coming to Criterion at a post screening discussion tonight.
Wonder if it will be packaged with something else.

A new Criterion edition of ITALIANAMERICAN and ALL-AMERICAN BOY would be tasty indeed. Dare we hope for THE BIG SHAVE too?

Yeah it would be cool to have all the early short films on BD. The ideal package would also have Who's That Knocking at My Door which is a Warner film.

Re: Criterion Discussion and Random Speculation Volume 7
Those are the three Voyager put out on laserdisc; don't see any reason to think they wouldn't at least port those over for a new edition. I think the bigger question is whether they'll add anything else, like the earlier student shorts (What's a Nice Girl Like You Doing in a Place Like This?, It's Not Just You, Murray!) that might've been left off the LD purely due of space considerations.

Older forum members and collectors will remember that in the early wave of DVDs from Criterion, they had an insert that announced a collection of Scorsese shorts along with Peppermint Frappe and Cocktail Molotov.

Re: Criterion Discussion and Random Speculation Volume 7
I would also love the two Scorsese film docs....A Personal Journey Through American Movies and My Voyage to Italy...to get a release from Criterion. These probably don’t have a chance of happening unless Scorsese owns the rights to these. Correct me if I’m wrong, I think Lionsgate has something to do with these.

Re: Criterion Discussion and Random Speculation Volume 7
My Personal Journey DVD is Miramax-branded, but I suppose that may not mean anything. Or it could mean everything, now that I think of it. Who the hell even owns the Miramax catalog these days? Do they own all of it, or was it parted out?
