Great! I was just looking for this film recently and was a bit surprised it hadn't been released on blu-ray yet.

Much like Altman's Gosford Park, which will be released by another company in November, Far from Heaven has been one of the most inexplicable Blu-ray absences in America, a release I've been daydreaming about almost since the dawn of the format. Surely the transfer will be better than the Canadian one. Major announcement, and props to Kino.

Coming to DVD and Blu-ray on November 20th from Kino Classics and The Library of Congress!

PIONEERS: FIRST WOMEN FILMMAKERS
Executive Producer: Illeana Douglas

A monumental 6-disc set including over 50 films, accompanied by an 80-page booklet.

In the early decades of cinema, some of the most innovative and celebrated filmmakers in America were women. Unafraid of controversy, filmmakers such as Lois Weber and Dorothy Davenport Reid tackled explosive issues such as birth control, abortion, and prostituion. This crucial chapter of film history comes alive through the presentation of a wide assortment of films (spanning 1911-1929), carefully curated, meticulously restored in 2K and 4K archival sources, and presented with new musical scores.

Special features (DVD and Blu-ray):
*80-page booklet with essays and photos
*Interviews with historians and archivists
*Musical scores by Renee C. Baker, The Berklee Silent Film Orchestra, Makia Matsumura, Maud Nelissen, Dana Reason, Aleksandra Vrebalov, and others

The producers shared notes to avoid overlap, and got it down to only one film being included in both sets, though I don't think anyone's said which one. I just saw a program of Germaine Dulac shorts last week, and I'm hoping a few of her others make it in on here. The Flicker Alley has La Cigarette and La Souriante Mme. Beudet, so I'm hoping La Coquille et le clergyman and some of the more experimental shorts get included on this one. Also hoping for more Arzner, Normand, and Deren...

The trailer for the Kino release includes a clip from Weber's SUSPENSE, which is also in the Flicker Alley set, so that's very likely it. Unless it isn't.

I'm guessing the box set will include the films from the recent retrospective of the same name.

I watched a bunch of Lois Weber's films a few years ago and found them to be really interesting. Where Are My Children? in particular is amazing! It would be great to have that on Blu.

Milestone put out a couple of Weber's films recently, a splendid little social-issue film entitled SHOES, and a more romantic historical epic THE DUMB GIRL OF PORTICI. Well worth checking out.

This is a set of American films only, I believe.
I look forward to the list of what's to be included.

I've forgotten everything about that film (I went through a huge noir binge several years ago and a lot of the movies are just one big chiaroscuro blur now) but apparently I really liked it!

It's very similar to a lot of the other "Brutal cop goes too far" noirs, only here
SpoilerShow
the lily white innocent guy he's relentlessly pursuing turns out to indeed be guilty. This would be clever if it weren't for Hayden falling for every trap the criminal sets for him, showing that he couldn't possibly be a smart cop and just lucked out that the guy he was leaning on so heavily turned out to be guilty

Oh, interesting... looking at that BAM series, other than the first film, which is Canadian, they do look to be all American films, though it seems the only real indication of that is "some of the most innovative and celebrated filmmakers in America were women."
