If the Paths cover has to feature an actor, it better fucking be Timothy Godamned Carey and his googly eye.

I was going to say the same about this one, but I think I like Domino's better

I think that should be a dirt path, but otherwise, excellent.

MGM already did, only with really bad, colorized Photoshop and without the giantess being burned alive in the background:domino harvey wrote:Just reconfigure this, Criterion:

Re: Criterion & Eclipse Cover Art & Packaging Babble-on
I like the Darjeeling one, but i wasn't expecting it. I thought they would create something more "crowded" with the bags, the 3 brothers. But i like it as it is, hope they don't change it!
Paths is a mess... i prefer this fake Criterion cover i found in the internet, but with a better idea for the title please!

The Darjeeling cover is excellent, assuming they keep it. Paths of Glory on the other hand is laughing-out-loud-bad and has got to be temporary artwork - the fake cover with a more appropriate font would be a very cool choice.

Re: Criterion & Eclipse Cover Art & Packaging Babble-on
While I think The Darjeeling Limited cover is probably the template or base for whatever the final will be (or another part of the packaging, like the inside liner art), I don't see a point in even critiquing the Paths of Glory cover. It's a Kubrick. It's a war movie. They're not going to slap that shit on there.

Speaking of Kubrick and war movies, I think this cover would be perfect to reflect the quality of FEAR AND DESIREFlike wrote:...I don't see a point in even critiquing the Paths of Glory cover. It's a Kubrick. It's a war movie. They're not going to slap that shit on there.

Thinking of Tim Carey in the collection makes me wish they were releasing The World's Greatest Sinner. That would be magnificent.MyNameCriterionForum wrote:If the Paths cover has to feature an actor, it better fucking be Timothy Godamned Carey and his googly eye.

Do you think Criterion is test-grouping us, dropping temp covers in press releases that they know we'll discuss?

Yes, as evidenced by all the complaints last year about how the My Dinner with Andre temp art was not a place setting.

I think you may be overstating this forum's influence just a little, as much as I like this place.Svevan wrote:Do you think Criterion is test-grouping us, dropping temp covers in press releases that they know we'll discuss?

Well we know they at least READ parts of the forum, this thread in particular - I'm sure the influence isn't great. It's hard to cull a single representative opinion from 40 different people, whose common link is that they like movies of some sort. Either way, releasing temp art is a weird practice.

Re: Criterion & Eclipse Cover Art & Packaging Babble-on
Don't they have Mubi as their test marketing group now? Anyway, great news about Paths of Glory. I don't mind the temp cover - it's nowhere near as evocative as the Spartacus cover but it'll do I guess.
"Shoot straight, you bastards!"
Oops sorry, accidentally quoted the wrong film there!
I love the Darjeeling Limited cover. It is likely too much to hope for a digipack similar to The Furies, but that design just makes me wish for it to be on the same kind of rough textured paper.

I just realized that the designer of the "Everlasting Moments" and "House" DVD covers is also the drummer for Ben Folds: Sam Smith. I don't know if that's been mentioned here (it probably has), but that's pretty cool.

Are you confusing the fan-made one a few posts up with the real (hopefully-temp) version?colinr0380 wrote:I don't mind the temp cover - it's nowhere near as evocative as the Spartacus cover but it'll do I guess.
