Something I thought might be of interest to those who read this thread: posters for classic movies on the TCM site. Most of them are at least a little bit naff, but some are quite nice - I get a kick out of the Jekyll and Hyde poster.

Re: Fake Criterion Covers
After looking at that "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" poster, I now know where Criterion got the idea for their "My Dinner with Andre" cover. Or maybe it's vice versa?Sloper wrote:Something I thought might be of interest to those who read this thread: posters for classic movies on the TCM site. Re: Fake Criterion Covers
The font seems more suited for, say, a Peter Sellers movie.

Re: Fake Criterion Covers
It's an interesting font, though.
What's it called?
And did you manipulate it to get that shaved-off side of the H?

Indeed. Mixing uppercase with lowercase for a Kubrick joint is also a no-no.kaujot wrote:The font seems more suited for, say, a Peter Sellers movie.

Re: Fake Criterion Covers
Well, the artist who did the original poster didn't have much sense picking out the font then. Though I believe it's actually hand-lettered. I'm not sure which is worse!
I think a sans-display font would work nicely. Serifs are too refined, especially with the screen you've chosen. That serif isn't Calluna, is it?

Re: Fake Criterion Covers
I liked the first cover too, especially the shot you've chosen - it has an authentic, grainy, period quality. You almost don't recognise Kirk Douglas.

Re: Fake Criterion Covers
Sans serif capital lettering seemed to be SK's preference. It suits the aesthetics of his films very well.

Re: Fake Criterion Covers
Agreed. Even his more "classical" works like PATHS have that Kubrickian aspect about them that blends better with a sans serif font, which tends to have a more modernist look.

Re: Fake Criterion Covers
Has anyone done a C cover for one of the films most deserving of the CC treatment: Saturday Night and Sunday Morning?

Re: Fake Criterion Covers
I have some other ideas for this one, but the most straightforward was, of course, the easiest to knock out. Wish I could've gotten the picture in color, and my laptop doesn't want to read the disc I burned of the recent IFC broadcast...
