Yeah, it's not great to say the least but I could see it happening. Just as long as they don't engage Bono for anything related to the extras. Especially after the embarrassing thing he wrote for the New York Times.

Come on, one can hardly object to the inclusion of Wenders' music video for the song, one of U2's absolute '90s bests. Object to the film, maybe, but hey, at least it's not The Million Dollar Hotel.

As for Bono's guest role as a NYT columnist this year, I would rather read his mad Irish ramblings any day of the week over the agit prop of a war criminal like Bill Kristol, whose time as a NYT columnist mercifully expired today.

A wacky dinner, eh? Could it finally be the long rumored Malle?

More Malle is always a good thing. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for a Criterion edition of The Quiet Man. [-o<

Although I think that this is the most obvious (not to mention the most likely correct) choice, I'm still not sure that there isn't something more going on here. Do the "Made a call...spur of the moment" line and the knife's reply have any added significance? Are they lines from the film? Oh well, I'm probably wrong.

But will we finally get the My Dinner With Andre action figures?

And I believe the "Made a call...." is a reference to Corky St Claire from Guffman as well.

I would like a Flash version of the videogame, perhaps at the website?

"Made a call... spur of the moment" and "Oh, you can always get a reservation" are invented My Dinner with Andre quotes that the action figures speak in Waiting for Guffman.

Anyone read the Paul Morrissey top ten? He certainly seems to have a chip on his shoulder about Welles.

Ah, see, here I was gonna speculate on The Naked Spur and Reservation Road. Now we can all speculate on Waiting for Guffman!!!

I'm curious though if they'll choose this opportunity to get some more Malle out of their system.

My working theory is that they were waiting until they could get Vanya.

Oh, swo, you missed the most obvious one! I thought all of these magical 'multiple clues' were supposed to refer to The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, and this seemed the most blatant yet.

As for Guffman, just because they're quoting that film's reference to My Dinner with Andre doesn't mean that this signifies anything more than a reference to My Dinner with Andre!

EDIT: Oh, and my wild speculation is that the two Morrisseys are being reissued - why else would they be talking to him, or publicising OOP titles?

No zedz, the clue clearly means Criterion is finally releasing every film

That would be great if Criterion could re-release the Morrissey titles, in 3-D too!

I can understand his reasoning regarding The Third Man, but the comment on Huston re Welles was interesting. Otherwise, this is one of the best lists I've read. He clearly conveyed his respect for the films which I for one enjoyed. His little barbs about modern life are amusing, but hey it's Morrissey. It's nice to have a list where a director names his influences and favorites instead of just naming off the hip Criterion films du jour to demonstrate how cool he is.

zedz, I didn't mean to imply that the clue was for Guffman, only that it playfully used the Guffman scene that highlights the Malle. Guffman is Warner, oui?

And I don't think Blood or Flesh are coming back into print, unless they are working on Blu.

That does seem like a plausible explanation for the lengthy delay. I could definitely see Vanya on 42nd Street being released as a sequential spine with Andre.

Paul Morrissey's list is the best they've ever run. I don't agree with many of his opinions, but they're entertaining as hell to read and make me want to drop what I'm doing and rewatch every film on the list. =D>

Ah, thanks for clearing that up. I love that scene from Guffman, but since I don't believe that I've seen since it first came out on video, the quote alluded me.

It would be nice to see the Morrissey's come back into print. It should be pretty easy since Image is the current rights holder. I would love to see these in Blu as well as including the 3-D footage as an "extra". They also screened both Flesh and Blood at the ATP festival...which might be an indicator that this will happen at some point...
