I and the rumors stand joyfully corrected. Such an essential film.

But... no Le jour se lève? What are they nuts?

He probably just said "it's not currently on our production schedule". Which, as history has proven in the past, mean's it'll be announced in 5 months or so. :)
I had this reply to the Exterminating Angel and it was solicted 2 months later. Personally, I think it's not just Tamara who's answering the Mulvaney emails but multiple people in the office. Some are more candid than others.

I think they just resent the accuracy of our Forthcoming Criterion List and are trying to mess with our minds.

The e-mail stated that Port/Quai is back in stock imminently but there is no information on other forthcoming Carne titles.
I read it as a no,if you want to put an ambiguous gloss on it that's fine.

An aside from speculation...

Amazon.com is having a 35-45% sale on nearly all Criterion titles just in time for the holidays. So if you missed the big 25% sale at Criterion.com, check this out.

Just thought I'd pass that along.

For whatever it's worth, the Alexander/Zoltan Korda film The Drum played on TCM last night with a Janus Films logo. I only actually caught 15 not-very-compelling minutes, and the print needed a lot of work. This was another film that starred Sabu. Based on the Jungle Book speculation, is it possible we'll see a Korda Eclipse set or something similar?

Is the The Seventh Seal being remastered and rereleased by Criterion? I really want to get that Bergman 4 Masterworks boxset, but am hesitant because I have heard 7Seal is being redone.

Could this Yo La Tengo sighting at the Criterion offices mean they're releasing a film they've done music for? Would a Blu-ray I'm Not There be a possibility? What about Shortbus / Junebug / Old Joy / Simple Men?

Maybe they're doing a Jean Painleve box, and including their program Science Is Fiction?

If they were there to work on a disc, SIMPLE MEN seems by far most likely. This is pure speculation, but I think Criterion will get to a few Hartleys eventually.

Yo La Tengo have scored more than few silents live in their time. Hopefully it's something along those lines, though Simple Men would be great.

This would be my guess, and we already know Criterion has a working relationship with BFI. Though I'm pretty happy with my R2 version

I bet the Painleve box is right. I forgot about that one. The R2 has always been too pricey, but I have the Sounds of Science CD and it's lovely.

Here's hoping they use a Jim Woodring drawing as the cover.

After watching Vlacil's film about Antonin Dvorak today (Koncert na konci leta), I remembered that Jires had made some films about composers in the 70s and 80s.

Leos Janacek (1973)
Zápisník zmizelého (1979) somehow based on Janacek
Bohuslav Martinu (1980) (made for TV)
Lev s bilou hrivou (1986) about Janacek (seems like he really liked him)
Antonin Dvorak (1990) TV series

He also made a film about Alphonse Mucha: Svet Alphonse Muchy (1980).

Seeing as Rossellini's history films were released, I thought this might also be a theme for Eclipse. Jires's composer films or something. Even if the appeal would be very limited. :(
There also is very few info on the films, even on the Czech IMDB, it's like no one has seen them. Maybe MichaelB knows more?

I will bet someone an egg salad sandwich we get 400 Blows on Blu-ray.

Also, just wondering, am I completely delusional in thinking that Marienbad is coming "any month now"? I've been telling this to myself for almost a year now, and my brain is starting to reject the idea.

Well, Marienbad seems to be winding down its theatrical run with nothing scheduled past this week, so the DVD is getting more and more likely. I'd be thrilled to see it in March myself, but I can never remember the usual gap between Rialto and Criterion's schedules.

Well if you're right it'll be the first time I buy a Criterion full house for over 18 months.
