Leos Carax's Boy Meets Girl, Mauvais Sang, and Lovers on the Bridge feature in the most recent round of CNC funding

I've always been curious to see if any of the significant amount of material that was excised from Lovers on the Bridge still exists. The film is perfect, and I wouldn't want to see it tampered with, but having access to those scenes would be a real treat.

Ridiculous how POLA X is still so neglected.

Further re: Zurlini -- La prima notta di quiete has been restored in 4K, original 127 minute version (some sources say 132 minutes), a Cannes Classics 2019 selection. Link to French distributor info:
https://lesfilmsducamelia.com/leprofesseur/
https://www.festival-cannes.com/en/73-e ... ble-couple

Here is a recent review of La ragazza con la valigia in French:
https://www.dvdclassik.com/critique/la- ... se-zurlini
Footnotes say that Claudia Cardinale was dubbed by Adriana Asti, and Jacques Perrin by Massimo Turci. Also, Zurlini was up for directing The Garden of the Finzi-Continis, but after disagreeing with the producers, he let Vittorio de Sica take over.
could it be the X4 restoration on blu-ray of "La ragazza con la valigia"- which would be first released in Germany (coming in September 2021) ?
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Girl-wit ... ay/293901/

I don't know this German label; the only thing that makes me hope it could be the new X4 restoration is that it's a new release coming in September 2021; perhaps it's just the "unofficial" HDTV transfer (looks good but nothing like the X4 restoration) which was released in Spain on blu-ray (I have bought it; it looks like a decent true HD details like an HDTV, but not a recent restoration)

Also a 4K version of Millennium Mambo, which I wouldn't be surprised to see from Janus/Criterion (Palm's U.S. rights finally expired a couple of years ago). I just hope it comes out better than the Flowers of Shanghai restoration.

Also a directed by Kinuyo Tanaka retrospective presented by Carlotta. I could see Arrow potentially releasing this in the US other than the fact a couple of the films are Toho releases.

Good timing for this film to get restored and rediscovered. The old Palm DVD looked terrible from what I remember. It also feels the type of aesthetics and music of this movie are sort of in at the moment, so I wouldn’t be surprised if some younger people are drawn to this on that level alone.

What was the problem with the Flowers resto specifically? The film always seemed very yellow and slightly odd-looking, but I've never seen it on 35mm or anything like that.

It's been DNR'd massively, so the DCP and all home video releases are devoid of any texture.

John Ford´s "The Brat" and "Pilgrimate" at MoMA; recent restorations, to judge from online info:
https://www.moma.org/calendar/film/5351
https://www.moma.org/calendar/events/7214
https://www.moma.org/calendar/events/7216
Way too late on this post - both streams will be taken down in 15 minutes - but these seem to look GREAT. I say "seem" because it's streaming, and there's quite a bit of artifacting that I'm pretty certain is related to the streaming compression as it's pretty common with everything I've seen streamed on MoMA's virtual cinema. It's impossible to tell if the film grain is really intact, but in terms of contrast and general detail, they look better than anything I've seen before. Hopefully a physical release will come soon, though I'm still waiting for Fox's beautifully-restored Borzage films to get a physical release here in the U.S.!

FWIW, Pilgrimage - the better of the two and some say Ford's first great film - only has an opening card that says it's a digital transfer of a nitrate print in MoMA's collection. The Brat has two opening cards, including a lengthy second one that credits the Film Foundation, George Lucas and others for its restoration. I'm not sure if that means more work was done on The Brat but they both look great and again MoMA's website simply says "4K restoration" on both pages (whether that is boilerplate copy, I have no idea).

EDIT: I was curious if you could stream these past the expiration time - no dice. The stream immediately cuts to a title card that says your "rental has expired."

This may be old news about the restoration, but a DCP of a digital restoration of Ozu’s 1959 Floating Weeds is being screened at Pacific Film Archive on November 7. No word on 1934’s A Story of Floating Weeds.

Apologies for the late notice (I just learned about it today), but the new restoration of Paulo Rocha's The Green Years is streaming for free (at least for those in the U.S.) on the National Gallery of Art's website through tomorrow, October 26.

So we can probably expect The Gay Divorcee and a possible stand-alone Jewel Robbery Blu next year.
