Arrow Announcements, Speculation & Wild, Irresponsible Conjecture

No, I was saying “sadly” generally. If you’ve ever worked in distribution, you’ll recognise the sickening lurch of recognition that you’re opening something in the wrong week, often in advance of the actual opening but close enough that it’s too late to do anything about it.

Arrow Video just teased announcements with a picture of a rock. So... Southland Tales???

This is what's appeared on the website so far:
  • Oldboy 4K
  • Southland Tales
  • Joint Security Area
  • REC
  • Gamera sets that are spilt by eras, as well as a Heisei era steelbook

Though I really like the film, I couldn't for the life of me think why people were guessing Southland Tales based on that clue. Once I saw the new cover art, I was reminded how much this year has really fried my brain.

There are reports of a postcard for The Frighteners being found in Arrow's King of New York UHD.

I'm hoping one of the ways they "move the line forward" is to add more Arrow Academy titles to their streaming service. I'm much less interested in most of the Arrow Video titles they currently have streaming.

Announcement on Friday and the clue is for Teruo Ishii's Shogun’s Joy of Torture. There is also rumors that Arrow might be releasing a 4K UHD of An American Werewolf in London since Zavvi is going to be releasing an exclusive slipcover for their Red Carpet members.

Just a steelbook of Arrow's Blu-ray. Again, if Arrow had any intention of release An American Werewolf in London on UHD, they would have done all the post scan work in 4K, which they didn't do.

January: Gamera reissues, Southland Tales, JSA, Oldboy UHD, Rec
February: Shogun's Joy of Torture, Demons 1&2 UHD LE (+ regular BD LE), El Duce Tapes, Beyond Re-Animator

Unsolved -

March: The Invisible Man Appears/The Invisible Man vs The Human Fly, Dune UHD?, Bloodhound
April: Django UHD (US-only), Battle Royale UHD?, Clapboard Jungle
May: A Ghost Waits
June: The Stylist, The Thing UHD?
July: Shaw Bros?, Cruising UHD?

The rest is gibberish, unless anyone can figure out any acronyms...

I don't think that will be Cruising as WB don't license UHD rights.

Fair enough! Was just spitballing. Someone elsewhere has mentioned Universal may be releasing their own The Thing UHD so there's speculation Arrow may have The Terminator instead.

I would have thought that a 'C' UHD is more likely to be Carrie.

I suspect LE UHD will turn out to be The Last Emperor.

Notably, it seems hard to turn any of those into Inglorious Basterds or Primer or Wolf of Wall Street (apart from WWS, which has been denied as being Wolf of Wall Street)

Carrie could very much be it.

City of the Living Dead maybe, following BU's success with their Fulci UHDs.

I hope so as this would also presumably negate the need to get the Scorpion release which improved on Arrow's BD.

Maybe, but I assume that if it were that it would be COTLD UHD instead of just C UHD.

That would hardly count as a cryptic tease though. There are two CUHDs in the list by my count anyway so it could be both. Or neither!

Isolated Score on Upstream Color, which for that particular film is an excellent addition.

RE: The Teaser photo, I don't see anything that would match A Fistful of Fingers, which is incredibly frustrating.

No new special features above what's on the existing releases.
Shame, I'm much more interested in a commentary (or any scholarly material!) for Upstream Color than Primer

The lack of any Arrow branding makes me think that recent, uh, developments regarding the filmmaker have quietly caused Arrow to scale down this release and just push it out to cover the costs so far.

Maybe, though Arrow doesn't seem nearly as self-conscious about their image filtered through the tabloid zeitgeist as other labels
